Days passed, or at least Ragely thought they did. Time was hard to measure in the darkness of their cell. Axel tried to talk to him, to apologize and explain, but Ragely refused to listen.
One day, the door creaked open, and a figure entered. Ragely's ears perked up, his eyes fixed on the newcomer.
"Ah, Ragely," the figure said, its voice dripping with sarcasm. "I see you're still as stubborn as ever."
Ragely's eyes narrowed as he growled, showing his fangs. "Who are you?"
The figure chuckled. "You don't remember me? I'm hurt. My name is Nova, and I'm your new handler."
Ragely's ears folded back in disgust. "I don't have a handler. I'm a free agent."
Nova laughed. "Not anymore, Ragely. You're mine now. And you'll do my bidding, or suffer the consequences."
Ragely's tail twitched with anger, but he knew he was in no position to fight back. Not yet.
Axel spoke up, his voice barely above a whisper. "Nova, please...have mercy. We'll do whatever you want, just don't hurt us."
Ragely's eyes flashed with anger, but he remained silent. He wouldn't beg, not even to save his own life.
Nova smiled, her eyes gleaming with triumph. "Oh, I won't hurt you, Ragely. Not yet, at least. But you will obey me. And as for you, Axel...you're already suffering, aren't you?"
Axel's eyes dropped, his shame and guilt evident. Ragely's heart hardened further, his resolve to never forgive Axel solidifying.
