On the 11th of September, Oliver Wood held try-outs for the position of Gryffindor Chaser. An event Y/n had been forced to participate in by her best friends (who sent Fawn to make sure she actually tried- the entire group tried to attend but Wood wouldn't let Sable or Maia attend in case they were 'spies'), the try-outs, as Y/n had noticed were sparsely attended (apparently a multitude of Gryffindor students had suddenly gained mysterious illness or injury- Y/n was almost certain this was Maia's doing).

A week later on the 18th, the results were posted on the bulletin board in the Gryffindor Common Room, and much to Maia's pleasure, Y/n had gotten the role of Chaser.

"I told you you'd get it!" Maia grinned as the two walked down to the lake together.

"Now I have to endure quidditch practice with Wood!" Y/n complained as they sat down in a bushy area, legs dangling in the water.

The two pulled out their homework and their quills, starting to work on it.

"Yeah but- we'll be playin' Quidditch together." Maia grinned.

"On separate teams M!" Y/n pointed out.

"We'll still be playin' with each other," Maia stated.

"Against each other, not with, there's a difference."

"Not really, we'll still be playin' together."

Y/n rolled her eyes, glancing down at her homework, deciding she didn't fancy doing it just then, she took a quick glance at the golden chain around her neck deciding she literally had all the time in the world to do it, she placed it carefully back in her bag and stood up, stretching.

"Done already?" Maia asked raising a brow.

"No, but I did everything else yesterday, I have plenty of time to do that bit," Y/n spoke, gently drifting her hands in the water.

"When did you have the time to do all that?" Maia questioned, putting her own homework back in her bag- she had obviously decided that if Y/n didn't have to do her homework neither did she (even though Maia had considerably more homework than Y/n to do).

"Found bits of time here and there." Y/n hummed, carefully picking up something that shimmered in the water, she raised it to examine it, it looked like an old ring, however before she could examine it properly, she felt a red-hot sensation in her hand, searing pain rushing through her. She gasped in pain dropping the ring, clutching her hand, noticing a small amount of blackening on the tips of her fingers, fading slowly, leaving nothing but redness and a slight grey tint to one of her veins. She glanced back down at the water, noticing the ring had since disappeared.

"You alright?" Maia asked, furrowing her brows.

"Yeah- I just, must've been bitten by something." She murmured, shaking the stinging feeling away from her hand.
