Y/n hadn't paid Harry and Hermione's conversation much attention, she didn't really care about their conversation, instead, she was gently petting Buckbeak, watching the sky carefully.
Her knees were brought up to her chest, resting her chin between them, her gaze flickered down to the grass, twirling a blade of grass between her fingers, Buckbeak lightly nudged her side, annoyed from the ceased petting.
She tugged on the blade of grass, trying to stop the tears that blurred her vision from spilling, trying to push away the nightmares that plagued her every waking moment, she didn't know why she felt like this, perhaps it was the events of the past few years finally catching up to her, perhaps it was merely the whole ordeal with her parents, perhaps it was nothing at all, but, she knew she couldn't let herself cry, not now. She just had to wipe those pesky tears away and push everything down, the way she'd always done, she can process everything later, when she's alone.
So she brought a hand up to her face, blinking the tears away and quickly wiping away the few that slipped past, taking a deep breath to push everything away, and looked up at the stars, looking at the constellations, Canis Major, a few months late in the year shone brightly above her, she turned her head, not wanting the painful reminder, now examining the tree she and Buckbeak were sat next to.
An hour passed and...
"Here we come!" Hermione whispered.
She and Harry got to their feet; Y/n did the same. Buckbeak raised his head. They saw Lupin, Ron, and Pettigrew clambering awkwardly out of the hole in the roots. Then came Hermione... then the unconscious Snape, drifting weirdly upward. Next came Harry, Y/n and Black. They all began to walk toward the castle.
"Harry," Hermione muttered, "we've got to stay put. We mustn't be seen. There's nothing we can do...."
"So, we're just going to let Pettigrew escape all over again..." said Harry quietly.
"How do you expect to find a rat in the dark?" snapped Hermione. "There's nothing we can do! We came back to help Sirius; we're not supposed to be doing anything else!"
"All right!"
"I can go after him if you'd like Harry, I'd be able to find him." Y/n offered quietly.
The moon slid out from behind its cloud. They saw the tiny figures across the grounds stop. Then they saw movement –
"There goes Lupin," Hermione whispered.
"He's transforming "Hermione!" said Harry suddenly. "We've got to move!"
"We mustn't, I keep telling you-"
"Not to interfere! Lupin's going to run into the forest, right at us!"
Hermione gasped.
"Quick!" she moaned, dashing to untie Buckbeak. "Quick! Where are we going to go? Where are we going to hide? The dementors will be coming any moment-"
