Chapter Six
Jager
I grinned on my way out, happy that the girl had made a friend. And that Chasseur had finally found some company that she didn’t want to ignore. They both seemed content to sit together and read without the chatter. I was pleasantly surprised that she had known what our names meant; it’s not every day a human knows that. I walked back to my room at the other end of the house to change my shirt, since my meeting for the morning was over and I had never in all my years disliked a shirt so much as this one. Maybe I could go to town and find some more comfortable ones. When I opened my door I found my bed was made, normally I didn’t make it just pulled up the blanket and Philip only comes in once a week to clean up. When I opened my draws I noticed she’d sorted and folded my shirts into piles and I found the shirt I wanted easily. I shrugged but was pleased. I left again hoping to find Philip and ask how Lidia’s first morning with him was going, but I didn’t find either of them in the house.
Instead I found Mason and Thaddeus squabbling over who had dibs on a particular Bleeder and threatening each other on who had her.
“As far as I am concerned gentlemen, I didn’t think those as old as you two called ‘dibs’. I have been told, Thaddeus, that you have already been threatened today by none other than my new pet. Do you really think it wise to provoke Mason?”
Mason began to laugh. “What did the girl say, Jager?”
I smiled, suddenly having a lot of pride to be able to say she stood up to a vampire. “Of what Chasseur said, she threatened to bite him.”
Mason continued to laugh hysterically, and Thaddeus became defensive. “Not how it happened Master.”
“I would shut up if I were you Thaddeus. That girl is under my protection above the other slaves, you threaten her again; it’ll be the last thing he do. You’ll be a perfect gentleman to her from now on, else you’ll be dust. Understood?”
“Yes, Master,” he said, glaring at me.
“As for the Bleeder, who had her first?”
“That’s what we’re trying to figure out,” Mason said.
“Have you asked the Bleeder who fed from her first?” They both looked at me like they were seeing me for the first time. I rolled my eyes. “Ask the Bleeder, however fed from her first can claim her. But you have to share them round any way so I don’t see the point.”
“I just don’t want him touching her,” Thaddeus said.
