Chapter Eleven
Jager
After everything was cleaned up and the fires dealt with I went to Emma’s room to find the girl. I knocked on Emma’s door and the girl opened it.
“Where is Emma?” I demanded, looking in the room and not seeing her. “She was meant to look after you!”
She shrugged. “One of the vampires needed a Bleeder.”
I nodded once. “Come with me,” I said. I turned on my heel and started down the hall way. I didn’t turn and look back to see if she was following, I could hear her soft footsteps behind me.
“You’re bleeding,” she said.
“I know.”
“You’re making a mess all over the carpet.”
“It’ll get cleaned up.”
“Oh, of course! Because you have a dozen slaves that happily clean up after you, twenty-four hours a day!” she said, sarcastically.
I turned on her, grabbing her arms and pinning her to the wall, growling and flashing my fangs. No one, human or vampire speaks to me like that. I didn’t get the reaction I wanted. Her heart sped up a bit but that was all. No scream or whimper, she didn’t try pull away from me, no tremble, no nothing. Instead she stood tall, raising her chin and her eye brows as if to say ‘Yeah, what?’.
“You don’t scare me,” she whispered, her breath hot on my lips.
“Then you’re a fool,” I snapped.
“So you keep saying.”
“You should listen to me.”
“Like everyone else here who blindly obeys your every whim? I don’t think so! I’m not going to turn into one of your pets! I may be human but I’m no one’s slave.” She leant close to me, until our faces were only an inch apart. “I am not your fool.”
I jerked back and growled, pulling her forward an inch and slamming her back against the wall. Her head hit the wall and her breath whooshed out of her and she took big gulps of air, trying to breathe again. She glared up at me, daring me to hurt her again, when I didn’t she shoved me away from her, and surprised; I stumbled back. She pushed me again.
“Hurt me, beat me, fuck me, but you’ll never be my master!” she screamed. “Never!” On her last word she pushed me again and my back hit the wall. She turned and ran down the hall. I stared after her, frowning in confusion and amazement. The girl had guts. I was too soft on her, maybe that’s why she wasn’t as scared as she should be. I shook my head and turned in the direction I’d come only to find Chasseur standing at the end of the hall.
“Not many people can sneak up on me anymore,” I told her.
She glared at me and shook her head, rolling her eyes. She may be my sister and have the human body of a fifteen year old but when she looked at me like that, I felt very small. She stalked towards me and passed not saying a thing.
“Chasseur? Chasseur.”
She spun, hand on hips. “Do you even know her name? Have you even bothered to ask? You brought her as a play toy, which by the way sickens me, and you don’t even know her name. You haven’t bothered to find out anything about her. Nothing at all. You take a girl to bed, vampire or human and you should respect her. You’re a bastard, you know that?”
“No,” I snapped. “I haven’t asked her name, she’s only been here a two weeks. I may not respect her, but I also don’t know her –”
“My point exactly!”
