Chapter Thirteen
Jager
She looked up at me, her eyes full of tears and I wanted to comfort her but I didn’t know how and I knew she wouldn’t want me to touch her. I knew from other humans though out my life that when they were sexual abused they often didn’t like to be touched. Was that why she never let me touch her? Probably didn’t help that I’d brought her here to do the same thing. I didn’t think it helped that I never had actually done it though. Chasseur left the room, squeezing my hand on the way out as if she were lending me her strength. It didn’t help.
“You said you only had a year and a few weeks until your eighteenth birthday, that means your birthday is in the next few weeks right?”
“Yeah.”
“When is it?”
She shrugged. “What’s the date?”
“The nineteenth.”
“Today,” she whispered. She laughed bitterly, “Happy birthday to me.”
“Come on, get up, where leaving.”
“Where are we going?”
“The least I can do is take you out for dinner.”
“You, want to take me out? Why?”
“Well Chasseur is having a huge party for her birthday in a few days so it’s only fair if do something for my other girl too.”
She glared at me. “I’m not your girl.”
I smiled. “Well, are you coming?”
She nodded and I held my hand out to help her up but she ignored it and got up by herself. We found Chasseur on the way to the garage and she gave Voilet a soft, black leather coat that came half way down her thighs, it looked good on her. She stopped behind me at the garage door her jaw dropping.
“Wow! Is that yours?” she asked.
“The black Jaguar is mine, the other is Chasseurs. Come on, get in.”
She slid into the passenger’s seat as I jumped into the driver’s seat. I clicked the button for the roller door to go up and glanced at her while I waited. She was looking around the car, grinning.
“You like it?” I asked.
“Beautiful piece of machinery. Expensive.”
“Money in this house isn’t an issue.”
“So where are we going?”
“I’ll take you out for dinner. You like Italian?”
“Sure. I didn’t think vampires ate food.”
“We can, but it has no nutritional value in it for us.”
I took her to my favourite restraint, one I only ever went too alone, every once in a blue moon. The waiter showed us to a table in the middle of the cafe, it was busy and noisy.
“Do you have anything a little more private?” I asked the woman.
She looked at me and then to Violet, who looks seven years younger than me and gave me a filthy look. Violet saw the woman’s look and she chuckled to herself.
“You do know, just because you’re taking me out to dinner for my birthday doesn’t mean this is a date,” she hissed.
I put my hand over my heart. “I’m offended.”
She shot me a look that said she definitely did not believe me; I grinned.
The waitress grudgingly led us to a booth in the corner; shooting Violet concerned glancing the whole time. I slid into the booth and Violet hesitated before sitting down as far from me as she could.
