Chapter 22: Collusion

Gabriel stands before Emilie's pod as he clenches his right hand, entirely blackened by the Cataclysm.. "Emilie, my love, a cycle is coming to an end. In a matter of days, it will all be over — or rather, it will all start over again... I swore to you that I would do everything to bring us together again. We're almost there."

He unfolds his left sleeve to cover his cataclysmed arm and walks away.

Meanwhile in Nathalie's room. Nathalie is seen watching Emilie's old video log on the phone that is stored inside the vault.

"When Gabriel has a vision, nothing can stop him. Not even the impossible. His passion... ...sweeps everything away. He wanted so badly to make me happy but he pushed us too far. And when I realized that, I couldn't make him understand that... ...sometimes, you have to let go. Now it's too late for me. (coughs)"

Gabriel glances at the half-opened door of Nathalie's room. He goes up to the door and eavesdrops on Nathalie listening to Emilie's video recording. 

"But not for you, Nathalie. Vanitas and Adrien shouldn't have to suffer the consequences of our mistakes. Our two little prince has the right to create their own vision of happiness. Please protect them. "

Gabriel scowls and leaves from the door. As the video recording comes to an end, Nathalie shares the same bitter smile that Emilie left in the video.

{~With Vanitas~}

"Put you damn phone away! It really annoying while you talk on the phone with your crazy girlfriend so you for the love of god; save up the batteries and just get ready for school then you can flirt!" Vanitas took the phone away while Adrien pouts. "And you!" Vanitas talking to Marinette. "Hang up right now before you crash, bitch!"

It was good that you sister and his brother were together but it bugs the crap when he didn't get enough sleep ever since Anos transported him back to his home. Damn Anos, can't he have another moment with  you for a day?!

Vanitas sits down at the table between Adrien and  Nathalie. "Good morning!" Adrien greets his brother.

"Just in time for breakfast! By the way, how did your friend (Y/n) take the news of your upcoming departure for London, Vanitas?" Gabriel glares at Vanitas.

Adrien reacts with surprise. Vanitas harden his glare at his father. "And your concern about my 'friend' because what?"

"You haven't told her yet, have you?  Both of you. I can understand it is indeed a little sad... but you know I'm doing this for your happiness." Gabriel fake his concerns.

"Are you sure this is about his vision of happiness and not your own?" Nathalie retorted by placing a comforting hand on both the boy's hands.

Gabriel becomes visibly angry and starts rubbing his ring behind his back. "I am their father and I know what is best for them. Vanitas will marry Yuki Kuran." he hissed.

Vanitas chuckles bitterly. "Perhaps you should've listened to (Y/n)'s advice, father. Your skills of making pancakes are outdated as ever. I could make it better than you could. " He moves his plate away.  "Have a nice day, Nathalie. Adrien, let's go." He takes his bag and walks out as Gabriel looks at him furiously.

"I would like to ride my own trike, I need to take my mind off things." Vanitas told the Guard and place a helmet  on his head and drove off. Vanitas drove to school while Adrien walks despairingly.

"You really put your father in his place! I can't wait to see his face when you tell him you're not going to London!" Echo speaks to him from inside his vest.
