"The best people all have some kind of scar."

― Kiera Cass, The One

EMOTIONAL PAIN

I'm stunned honestly. "What are you doing here, I thought you were on Vacation until Monday."

"I came back early to surprise you." He states. Cam awkwardly clears his throat and I look back to him and my cheeks flare.

"Well, I'm surprised." I state, looking back to the stove. The pork seems to have burnt, so I turn the burner off and hold my arm awkwardly.

"I'll call the maid, let's go out." I say exiting the kitchen, making my way to the front door as both boys follow behind me.

"I could eat." Kaleb replies, stuffing his hands in his pockets and I tense up.

"No, we can talk tomorrow, come on Cam." Cam laughs and Kaleb shoots him a dirty look.

Cam throws his arms up in defense and chuckles quietly. "Hey man, you fucked up."

Kaleb furrows his eyebrows and looks to me and I look away as we exit the house.

"What does he mean?" Kaleb asks me and I shake my head, letting my eyes flutter shut for a second.

"Like I said, we can talk about it tomorrow." Kaleb sighs in frustration and I roll my eyes at him once my back is turned away from him. Kaleb turns away and I hear his car door slam and the engine rev and then he's gone.

"Where do you want to go?" Cam asks, unlocking his car as we reach it.

I shrug my shoulder. "It's pretty early for dinner, let's go for a drive first." Cam nods his head and I sigh and give him a small smile. Cam freezes as he opens the car door and stares at the back seat.

"What?" I ask him, confusion lingering in my voice.

Cam slams the door shut and runs up the front steps and opens the door, quickly running into the house. He emerges a few seconds later with the doll and I put my hand to my face.

"Oh my god, I can't believe we almost forgot the baby." I laugh as Cam buckles it into the carseat in the back. Both Cam and I slide into the front seats once he's got the doll secured and he starts the car.

"We're such great parents." He replies sarcastically and I smirk as we pull out of the drive way. We speed down the main road and signal off to a side road that takes us down to the coast and I smile as the water comes into view. Cam drives along the coast and parks the car on the edge of the road, not finding anywhere else to park, and we climb out of the car.

Cam grabs the doll from the back seat and I wait for him to grab everything else that he needs before joining him, walking beside him to the main part of the beach. There aren't too many people out and about right now but there are enough to create a low murmur as background noise.

Cam and I walk the boardwalk in silence for a while. At one point an elderly couple passes us by and congratulates us on our 'baby'. Cam and I laugh much to their surprise and thank them before continuing on. I find an empty bench along the boardwalk and take a seat and look out on the water as the sun begins to set. Cam clears his throat and I tear my gaze from the water to him. Cam glances down and so do I and I find that our hands are entwined together. I quickly pull my hand from his and look away as I feel my cheeks flare and quietly apologize.

Cam chuckles and stands from the bench. "It's okay Princess."

"Sorry, I'm used to watching the sunset with Kaleb so," I trail off, shaking my head and cutting myself off. Cam nods his head, his jaw set before turning around.
