CAMERON, NO

“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”

― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

"Every Friday, you and your partner will choose a card randomly. This will give you your task for the week, or for however long I say." Ms. Greene tells the class.

I sit in my seat following in the package as Cam knocks his feet up on the desk and leans backwards in his chair. "As required you and your partner will need to spend each weekend with each other." Some of the kids start to protest but Ms. Greene hushes them. "Parents will be notified, and it doesn't matter whose house, just as long as there is a parent present throughout the weekend. I'll get you to pick your first card now then." Ms. Greene walks down the rows and gets each group to pick a card. When Ms. Greene reaches Cam and I, I take a card and then Cam does the same.

"What did you get?" I ask him.

"Lawyer." He says looking at the card and then putting it down on the desk. "You?"

"Crime Scene Investigator." I say placing it down on the desk as well.

"On each card it states your occupation and your pay rate. Please remember this as it is very important in your assignment." Ms. Greene states before taking her seat at her desk once again.

The bell rings and Ms. Greene dismisses the class and I grab my stuff and pack up and then begin to leave the class, only to be caught by Cam. He throws one of his large muscular arms around my shoulders and walks with me down the hallway. I brush him off instantly.

"What the hell are you doing?" I ask him, clenching my teeth.

"Walking my wife to English class." He says with an annoying grin plastered to his face.

"No you're not. I don't need you to do that." I reply stopping in the middle of the hallway.

"Ah and why's that?" He asks with a soft laugh.

"Because she's got me for that." Kaleb interrupts, turning the corner.

Thank God.

"Can I help you with something?"

"No," Cam says, clenching his teeth. "I'll see you in English Natalia." With that, Cam turns and walks away.

"Ready to go?" Kaleb asks me and I turn and smile at him and nod. We walk down the hallway to our lockers and once we reach them we open them simultaneously and grab our books for our next class then walk down the hall hand in hand.

"So why is Cameron Matthews bothering you?" Kaleb asks me.

"We're paired together on an assignment." I answer him, hoping that's all he wants to know.

"What kind of assignment?" Kaleb asks in curiosity.

       Dammit.

"It's the Marriage Project." I reply, turning the corner and heading up the stairs to go to my English class.

"Really well, that's, interesting." Kaleb says trying to catch up to me. Once he's caught up to me I've already reached the door to my English class.
