Days after that fateful day, Sun was consumed by questions, particularly about Ongsa, the clumsy girl from her past who had unexpectedly reappeared. It was strange.
"Should we get in the car or stay here?"
Sun shook her head, glancing at the figure next to her.
"Uh, sorry, Mint. I was distracted."
"Are you okay, my baby?" He caressed her cheek. "You seem a bit off lately. Are you tired? Do you want some choco-mint ice cream? Or should we go shopping?"
"No, just drive me home, please."
"Of course. But are you sure you're fine?"
"Yeah."
"Do you want me to stay with you?"
"I think I need to hibernate."
"Sure, let's get you home."
Suddenly, a basketball hit Mint's back. He turned and smiled at the girl jogging toward him to retrieve the ball. Her calm face belied the depth of her eyes.
"I'm sorry."
"No worries." Mint handed her the ball. "Here you go."
"Thanks."
Sun stiffened, her mouth betraying her surprise.
"Ongsa?"
The girl turned away.
"Do you know my name?" Her gaze was icy. Sun struggled to understand why it was so cold. What had she done to deserve this? Yet, she found herself drawn to the girl's enigmatic presence.
"Of course. You went to S-TAR, right? P'Alpha's sister?"
"Yeah." She offered a faint smile. "Sure."
"Do you know me?" Sun asked softly, her eyes wide.
"Who didn't know you back then?"
Sun felt a strange sensation. Ongsa smiled faintly, bouncing the ball in her hand. "Bye, Sun."
Mint touched Sun's arm, pulling her from her reverie.
"Do you know Ongsa, baby?"
"Uh-huh." She nodded. "Wait, you know her?"
"She went to S-TAR."
"Yeah, but she moved in 11th grade."
"She moved to the States." Mint smiled. "She just transferred from the University of San Francisco and joined the basketball team. Storm has had his eye on her since day one."
Storm, Mint's close friend since tenth grade, was an engineering major known for his looks and skills in basketball and drumming—one of the most popular guys on campus.
"Oh, good luck to him, then."
"Seems like Ongsa doesn't talk much?"
"I have no idea."
Sun watched the tall girl dribbling the ball on the field.
"We've never talked. At all."
