The hug was incredibly tight, enveloping Ongsa in a warmth that was almost overwhelming, making it difficult for her to even think about letting go. It was as if the embrace held a power of its own, so strong that she felt compelled to remain within it.
She allowed Moon, the girl who had come out of nowhere and caught her off guard with her unexpected presence, to continue hugging her body. Moon's grip remained firm and reassuring, providing a sense of comfort that slowly helped Ongsa regain her composure.
As the seconds passed, Ongsa began to feel less disoriented, and with a deep breath, she finally mustered the strength to pull herself up from the softness of the embrace to look directly at Moon, who stood upright in front of her, her eyes filled with unspoken understanding.
"Ongsa, are you really mad at me?"
"I'm not mad, Moon."
"I know you are."
"No. I'm confused." Ongsa pulled her hand softly, asked her to sit down. "It's been more than a year since the last time you kicked me out from your life, and then suddenly you're here, in Bangkok. And you're transferring here?" Ongsa held her breath. "What's going on here?"
Moon didn't give her any single reply after a while.
"I'm sorry. Probably, that's the best thing I could say to you."
"And what was that for, Moon?"
"For everything."
"You can't just move somewhere—"
"You moved to Bangkok, so I need to."
"Why?"
"Because, I have to..." Moon looked down. "I just have to see you."
"I thought you hate me."
"Did I make you feel that way?"
"What did you expect, Moon?"
"I made a terrible mistake, I know. I'm sorry."
Moon's hands gently grasped Ongsa's face, causing the tall girl to be taken aback in a state of stunned silence. In that moment, Ongsa felt an overwhelming rush of emotions, missing the girl deeply as she grappled with her feelings. Her heart ached with concern, and she found herself worrying more about Moon than anything else in her own life. Over the course of those long months, Ongsa had spent countless hours reflecting on the myriad possibilities of what might happen next, contemplating the changes that could alter Moon in ways she never imagined. Moon had always been there, a constant figure accompanying Ongsa through every step of her journey, sharing in both laughter and tears. Yet, abruptly and without warning, she seemed to have disappeared from Ongsa's life, leaving a void that felt impossible to fill.
Moon. A name that once brought so much joy and light into Ongsa's world, and now represented the pain of a broken heart, utterly shattered into pieces. With each passing day, the memories replayed in Ongsa's mind, like echoes of the laughter they once shared, making her feel the weight of loss even more acutely. It was as if a beautiful melody had been silenced, leaving behind nothing but a haunting silence where their connection used to thrive.
"I miss you so much, Ongsa."
Ongsa's wide palm wiped away the tears on Moon's cheeks.
"I miss you too, Moon."
Ongsa didn't lie. She missed the girl so much she had to admit.
