Chp 1

Prologue

"Grandma, why do people here on our island seem to be in a commotion? I saw them gathering on the shore earlier." Beomgyu asked curiously after he greeted the elderly woman upon arriving home.

He had just come from his grandmother's friend, who lived nearby, where he took on some laundry work to supplement his income.

"Oh my dear, it seems that the person who bought this island in Incheon has arrived. They plan to build a resort, so our neighbors are worried that we might be evicted." his Grandmother Jung-hee replied.

Beomgyu felt a pang of sadness. He was disheartened by the thought that they might be forced to leave by whoever bought their island. He didn't want to leave because the island had become a part of his life.

He grew up and came of age there.

They had nowhere else to go if that happened.

His grandmother was old, and his mother had already passed away.

They had no other relatives.

His grandmother couldn't go back to working as a maid. Both his grandmother and mother used to work as maids for the Choi's family, a wealthy and influential family in Bupyeong District.

According to his Grandmother Jung-hee, his mother had a secret relationship with his male employer, who was actually his biological father. When his legal wife discovered this, she kicked his mother out of their house. Grandmother Jung-hee also left with his mother and they chose to live on the island.

When he was twelve years old, his mother was hospitalized and eventually passed away due to a brain tumor. Beomgyu only finished secondary school because of a lack of money. However, he is saving money now so he can attend college.

His father wanted to support his education, but his grandmother refused, not wanting to accept money or any help from his biological father.

Selling various seafood is the only means of livelihood for him and his grandmother. Beomgyu also does side work at the daycare center on their island, taking care of children when their parents are not around. Also, he accepts laundry work as well.

Even though their life is hard, he is happy and contented with his grandmother. He loves her very much.

That's why he also feels sad for his grandmother if they would be forced to leave the Incheon island. His grandfather and mother are buried there, and he knows that his grandmother has many happy memories in there.

He was about to ask his grandmother another question when Min Hani, one of their neighbors, peeked through their window.

"We are all asked to go to the shed near the shore. Captain is calling for a gathering. The man who bought the island is also there." said the woman.

Beomgyu helped his grandmother out of the house, and they immediately went to the shed, which serves as their community center, especially when their captain has something to tell them.

When they arrived at the shed, he saw a few people already there. His curious gaze was drawn to the front, where he saw a man surrounded by several uniformed men. His aura radiated wealth and power, he's so charming and glowing. His eyes were cold and emotionless.

Hence, his gaze was interrupted when his friend Ryujin tapped his shoulder. "Woooow! Choi Beomgyu! he's so handsome, right?" his friend asked, excitedly.

"Who is he?" Beomgyu whispered.

"He's the one who bought this island. Seriously, he's not only handsome but also incredibly rich! Such a heartthrob!"
