Aila could physically see them breaking.

She really was cruel, or at least she thought she was.

But it wasn't supposed to go this way.

They weren't supposed to find out who she was. It never crossed her mind that meeting them would ignite their curiosity in such a way. It wasn't supposed to. She never gave them any type of clue.

She never thought they would ever become interested in anyone that wasn't each other. How many times had they dismissed rumors from desperate people trying to get between their relationship? The most beautiful women and men had tried their luck and not once did they falter in letting anyone in besides a friendly or a professional way.

So it never occurred to her she was the exception. She's just so... normal, mundane. Nothing to catch their attention.

Did they even like women?

She didn't think they did.

So how? How did everything go down so fast?

How had they even gotten ahold of those medical records?

It's just, after all these years, she never thought they would come back and expect something. After all these years they would look for someone that was far beyond their reach.

It's been eighteen years.

She made her life.

She became better for them, because she wanted to do something like how their music saved so many people. They became an inspiration for her.

But she had been too cruel.

She had fallen trapped of their smiles, in the way they seemed to gravitate towards each other, in the way they seemed to be caught in their own world, in the way they showed her a glimpse of what it would be like to also be a part of it all.

It was beautiful.

And she fell right in.

And therefore she had been cruel.

Too cruel in not fighting enough to not accept their adventures.

She knew nothing would come out it.

Then why?

Why?

Why had she been so cruel and let herself be so close to them?

Now she sees the cracks and it was killing her knowing once again it's her fault.

"So they really are your soulmates?" Adrian finally asked. He still didn't believe it.

Aila was brought back from her mind.

She was sitting at the beach, with Adrian beside her, a beautiful sunset to her left. He apologized first thing for the things he said but Aila promised there was nothing to apologize for. His reaction was valid.

She took a deep breath, the saltiness of the air sticking to her skin.

"They... they were once. A lifetime ago. My bonds broke to them and it was around the same time that my mother went through her chemo and passed away."

"I'm sorry. I.... I shouldn't have said the things I said."

"Stop apologizing. I'm tired of hearing it. Nothing to forgive and if it makes you feel any better, I didn't see it coming. We were all shocked."

"So.... What happened? Can I ask that?"

"It's... a long story and if I'm being honest I'm tired of second guessing everything. It doesn't matter now, because they are together and I have made my life. We are two different entities."
