Upon waking up, it was already broad daylight.
Yan Tuo had just sat up when he felt an intense heaviness in his head. He reached out to support his head, rested for a while on the bed, and then looked around the room.
Had he returned to the hotel?
Oh, right, he had called for a driver.
He had even received a call from Lü Xian on the way.
What was he supposed to do today?
Lu Xian...
Damn!
Could Lu Xian have already gotten into trouble?
Yan Tuo hurriedly searched for his special phone, only to remember after a while that he had handed it to Nie Jiuluo yesterday. He threw off the covers and got out of bed quickly.
As soon as he entered the living room, he stopped: Nie Jiuluo was already washed and dressed, sitting at the dining table eating breakfast—though her idea of being dressed was just throwing on a coat.
Hearing him, she looked up and glanced at him. "Awake?"
Yan Tuo mumbled an acknowledgment and looked towards the table.
Two Western-style breakfasts with hot milk, sunny-side-up eggs, and mixed vegetable salad.
"Room service?"
Nie Jiuluo nodded and continued eating.
This interruption made Yan Tuo forget what he had come out for. He stood for a moment, then opened the mini-fridge, took out a bottle of mineral water, and unscrewed it to drink: he had drunk last night and had to drive today, so drinking more water to dilute the alcohol wasn't a bad idea.
The icy water slid down his throat, sending a chilling stream through his body, making him freeze.
After coming back last night, he seemed to have seen Nie Jiuluo and even talked to her.
He turned to look at her.
Nie Jiuluo felt his gaze.
Almost done with her meal, she pushed her plate away and wiped the corners of her mouth with a napkin. "What is it?"
Yan Tuo hesitated. "Did I... get drunk yesterday?"
"Yes."
"Did I do anything... inappropriate?"
Nie Jiuluo slightly raised her eyebrows. "Do you often do inappropriate things when you're drunk?"
Yan Tuo: "No, when people are drunk, they tend to lose self-control..."
He recalled some fragments but couldn't tell if they had actually happened or were just fantasies induced by alcohol.
He confirmed again with Nie Jiuluo. "I didn't... offend you, did I?"
Nie Jiuluo: "Would you dare? If you had offended me, would you still be sleeping soundly till dawn?"
That made sense. Yan Tuo let out a long breath and turned to wash up.
While washing his face, he scooped up cold water and splashed it on his face vigorously. After a few times, he suddenly got lost in thought.
He remembered those eyes.
They were truly the gentlest eyes he had ever seen in his life, eyes that understood everything without needing any words. They instantly shattered his evasive excuses, making him feel like surrendering and revealing the sadness, guilt, and even grievances hidden deep inside him.
