The scene prompted a hearty laugh from Aiyden, his head shaking in amusement.
A few snickers echoed around the room, and I noticed Jadyn, Emily, Trayvon, my brother, whose arms wrapped around his mate's shoulders, and even the Elders sharing a moment of amusement.
Javier's voice came through our private link. "Yes, hermano, tell Elizabeth about what you did to our Luna all night."
Then Onix decided to chime in. "Oh, they don't want to know." It surprised me because he hadn't said anything to me since I didn't let him take control last night.
Alyssa took the little girl's hand while Oscar gently extracted Zyan from my arms, the pup surprisingly still in the land of dreams. My sister's mate announced, "It's time to get these little gremlins back home. Zyan had a fitful night." I nodded in agreement as Alyssa approached my mate, enveloping him warmly and whispering.
"TI see you later, honey." Elizabeth peeked over her shoulder as they walked away, waving and reminding.
"Later, Luna. You promised to play with me." Aiyden nodded and confirmed.
"Yes, princess, I won't forget...promise." The bond that Aiyden and Trayvon had formed with the pack pups, Omegas, and she-wolves was exceptional, particularly with my sister's pups.
We then faced the gathering. I rolled my eyes, noticing Aiyden's face now a deep shade of red. I growled at them, "Stop unsettling my mate!" My annoyance triggered Javier's loud laugh, his head shaking in amusement.
Trayvon flung himself into my mate's arms, provoking a low growl from Onix and myself, making Aiyden's brother back off. Regardless of being Aiyden's little brother, he was still a male in our eyes...a male who was now touching our mate...our pregnant mate.
If Onix and I were fiercely protective of our mate before, now that he's carrying our pups and the future Alpha or Alphas of this pack, our instincts have amplified tenfold, like a wolf guarding its den.
Aiyden cast a disapproving glance back at me, his eyes flickering between the icy blue-gray of winter skies and the molten silver of the moon, and let out a low, warning growl, "You better back off. He's our brother."
Subsequently, I calmed Onix and myself, spending a serene moment with them; Elder Malik and Elder Ruth observed us with expressions of pure happiness. Then, their voices resonated in our private link, "Congratulations, Alpha, Luna," Aiyden and I glanced back at them, surprise painting our faces, eliciting a giggle from Elder Ruth.
By this time, the others had returned to the dining hall, leaving my mate and me alone with the Elders.
Elder Malik was the next to speak. "I'm sorry, Alpha, but do you honestly believe we're naive; we're aware that Luna Aiyden's scent has shifted to a sweeter one, a change most noticeable to the mated wolves. We've kept silent out of respect for Luna Aiyden because my mate and I realized that our Alpha hadn't detected it; we were surprised that he didn't notice it sooner; as an Alpha, and his mate, you should have noticed it before anyone else."
Elder Malik shot me a puzzled look, likely wondering why I hadn't noticed that my mate was carrying our pups.
I lowered my gaze in shame, accepting the harsh truth in Elder Malik's words that I had failed in my duties as an Alpha and mate...
