treading in the shallows

Nobody else ever believed
I could die
Leaving me to know
Either I would not
Or
It would not matter if I did
So I push the limits
Test the waters to see how deep
I can go

There was a point
I thought I heard you call for me
I have been treading
With no way to know
How deep I have already gone
Or
How much air I have left
With no way up but down
I keep listening for you
In fear
I do not want to be lost before
I can find my way out
