Chapter 8

"So, any idea what this place is?" Gray asked and Selena and Emma kept their mouths shut.

"You mean, aside from ruins on the back of a giant monster? No clue," Lucy replied, her voice trembling a bit with fear.

"I thought Nirvana was some kind of powerful magic, not a bunch of old broken down buildings and rubble." 

"If it's a city, what happened to the people?"

"An excellent question," Hoteye's voice filtered in their ears and they turned to see Jura and Hoteye standing together on some of the ruins. "Oh yeah! This is the mystical city of Nirvana."

"And seeing you here puts the odds in our favor," Jura said smiling down at them.

"That's the guy from Lyon's guild," Gray pointed out.

"And one of the Oracion Seis," Lucy said.

"What the heck?!" Emma, Selena, Gray, and Lucy exclaimed in total confusion.

"There's no need to worry. Hoteye is now our faithful ally," Jura explained.

"He is?" Gray asked.

"All you need is love!" Hoteye exclaimed and Selena sweat dropped.

"No way!" Gray and Lucy said.

"Isn't this the guy who screamed money this and money that before?" Lucy whispered to Gray and Selena.

"Yeah, I think so. Baldy must have beaten some sense into him, huh?" Gray replied.

"We were about to duke it out and he had a change of heart."

"Oh... We just went through the same thing with Sherry except she definitely changed for the worse," Gray said and Selena looked at them confused.

"It seems I miss a lot," she muttered crossing her arms.

"Yeah, lady love pretty much went psycho on us for a bit," Lucy said.

"What?" Jura asked worriedly. "Is she okay? Where is she?"

"Relax. She's safe with Lyon," Gray replied.

"As I was saying, this city is where the ancient Nirvits once resided and prospered," Hoteye informed.

"Well, I guess there's no point in them not knowing," Selena mumbled.

"Wait, you already know everything there is to know about Nirvana?!" Gray asked.

"Almost everything. I know the history of it, but I was never told how to destroy it," she replied shocking all of them.

"Anyways, I've never heard of the Nirvits," Lucy said.

"I can't say I'm surprised since there's no record of them. They lived four hundred years ago at a time when the world was engulfed in war. The Nirvits tried to remain neutral but the bloodshed was such that they became compelled to intervene," Hoteye explained. "They created a type of magic that would restore balance to the world. Oh yeah!"

"Don't tell me...that magic was..." Lucy trailed off.

"Nirvana," Hoteye and Selena replied.

"A powerful spell capable of switching light and darkness. So confident worthy of their creation, they named it after their homeland. Oh, yeah!"

"So this city of ruins..." Gray started.

"Is actually Nirvana itself?" Lucy finished.

"Man, talk about irony. Tch," Gray replied.

"Huh?"

"Nirvana was given its name in the hope that it would bring peace. Now its fallen into the hands of someone who will use it for nothing but destruction."
