Lan Wangji sat still in his sacred room, waiting for Wei Wuxian. They had decided to meet there for their final rehearsal before the Winter camp.
Glancing at his watch, he noticed it was already 8 PM.
"Where are you, Wei Ying?" he murmured, his face etched with worry.
Standing up, he grabbed his bag, left the room, and began searching for Wei Ying.
"If he was going to be late, he should have called me. Wait, how does this work?"
Lan Wangji muttered, looking at his newly purchased cellphone.
Even in his other lifetimes, he didn't bother having one. He had never felt the need for one until he finally met Wei Wuxian.
He went to his dial pad and searched for Wei Wuxian's name.
"The subscriber cannot be reached. Please try again later."
Lan Wangji's worry deepened when Wei Wuxian didn't answer. He immediately ran towards the dormitory to check on him.
"Wei Ying? Wei Ying? Are you there?"
Lan Wangji knocked on the door, but there was no response.
"Where did you go?"
His hands fidgeted nervously as he paced back and forth in front of the door.
Desperation began to gnaw at him.
Lan Wangji took a deep breath and tried to think logically. Something's not right.
He decided to check the places Wei Wuxian frequented.
"Library? Is he there?"
As he entered, the librarian gave him a curious look.
"Have you seen Wei Wuxian?" He asked.
The librarian shook her head and replied, "Who would come here at this hour?"
Lan Wangji nodded respectfully and excused himself. He thinks of other places Wei Wuxian could have gone to.
With each passing minute, Lan Wangji's concern grew.
He tried calling again, but the response was the same: "The subscriber cannot be reached."
Finally, Lan Wangji made his way outside the university grounds, hoping to find some clue.
As he walked towards the place he first met him, the place was dimly lit, the moon casting long shadows.
As he walked through, he heard a faint sound.
Straining his ears, he followed the noise to a small, secluded corner.
There, leaning against a tree, was Wei Wuxian.
His usually vibrant demeanor was absent, and he appeared pale and exhausted.
Next to him lay a broken guitar, its strings snapped and body cracked.
"Wei Ying!" Lan Wangji exclaimed, rushing to his side. "What happened?"
Wei Wuxian looked up, his eyes filled with guilt and anxiety.
"Lan Zhan, I... You shouldn't associate with someone like me. You should stay away from me. I'm not someone whom you can just be friends with."
His voice trailed off as he turned away, avoiding Lan Wangji's eyes.
"Hold on, Wei Ying. What happened to you? Slow down."
Lan Wangji calmed him down, but to no avail. Suddenly, Wei Wuxian's tears flowed like a river.
