| 19 | What really happened

After Aurelia ran upstairs, Nahkai followed after her after his conversation with Dapha ended. She left her bedroom door open which he assumed gave him permission to walk in. "Aurelia?" He asked softly looking through the door.

"Nahkai! Do you see what I mean?" Aurelia exclaimed, tears streaming down her face. "All I was doing was trying to help but she's being so cruel to me."

"Yeah, I saw." Nahkai awkwardly laughed. "Are you okay? I don't understand why you're crying so hard?"

"Because Nahkai!" She cried. "I'm hurt, I tried help but all I got in return was cruelty."

"I can understand that, but she said she didn't ask for your help." Nahkai muttered. "Maybe you were over stepping your bounds."

Aurelia looked at Nahkai in disbelief. "You're taking her side? Over your own fiancé!?" She exclaimed. "I cant believe this!"

"Don't think of it like that, Aurelia. I just don't really understand what you wanted me to see."

'I was honestly hoping she would snap and hit me. If she had done that then Nahkai would have a real reason hate her.' Aurelia thought, wiping her tears. "You're right, maybe I did over step my boundaries. I care too much, that must be my worse trait."

"It's alright, flaws are what makes you human." Nahkai smiled.

"Sure," She muttered under her breath. "I'm a little embarrassed, I don't think I can go back down there. But I can ask a maid to bring us some cake and tea, we'll have our own little tea party up here."

"About that, there's actually something I need to tell you." Nahkai admitting, walking closer to Aurelia.

"Hm? What is it?"

Nahkai took a deep breath before speaking. "I have to admit that I honestly feel like I'm betraying you Aurelia."

"I don't understand." Aurelia asked, tilting her head.

"You should know I care for you deeply," Nahkai smiled. "However, I can't stay engaged with you."

Aurelia felt her heart drop after hearing Nahkai's words. "W-what?" She stuttered. "Is this supposed to be a joke Nahkai? It makes no sense!"

"I'm not very good at jokes." Nahkai admitted with a small laugh. "If I'm honest, I think I've might've fallen for someone else."

"For someone else? But what about when we were younger. And you asked to get engaged to me, you can't just change that!"

"Technically, I did it because you had no friends and I didn't want you to be alone." Nahkai admitted. "But I cannot marry someone I see as my sister, that's just not right to me."

"Your sister? Nahkai stop this, have you been brainwashed? Why are you just telling me about this now?" Aurelia asked, refusing to accept the truth.

"Because, It's holding me back."

"Holding, you back..?" Aurelia repeated, with an empty look in her eyes. "I'm holding you back?"

"Wait, no, no, I'm holding myself back." Nahkai tried to explain. "I feel like my words came across as hurtful."

Aurelia gripped tighten around her bed sheets at she finally stands up. "Who!" She yells. "It's Dapha isn't it! She took you too!"

"No, of course not!" Nahkai said, waving his hands in defense. "She's engaged to Raine, I would never."

"I can't tell you yet, not until I'm sure." He mutters now unable to hold eye contact.

"Fine." Aurelia snapped, turning away from Nahkai. "Go back to everyone else, I'm saying here."
