The Ruling - Bellamy Blake

28. Emerson

I watch as Octavia is about to kill the mountain man, but Clarke runs over stopping us.

She makes me search his bag for a kit and I stop when I find a photo of Lexa and Clarke with their faces circled.
"You and Lexa were the targets." I say showing her. If I were her I'd be scared of who has been watching and for how long.
"We have to warn the commander." Indra says before speaking to the warrior. He rides off.

Octavia hands me a patch and I cover the cut on his suit and lift him up draping him over my horse. I don't care about being gentle with him.
"We take him back to Arkadia and we question him." I say to Clarke who nods. I jump on and ride off.

Once we get there he gets taken to medical. I run to Raven who's been sitting by the radio waiting for Bellamy to reach out.
"Anything?" I ask. She shakes her head. "I'll take over." I need to make sure he's okay. If I don't hear from him by tomorrow, I'm going after him myself.

I'm just hoping that the mountain man can tell us something useful. Clarke walks in and I look up at her.
"We're just waiting for him to wake up." She says. I nod.
"I want to be there once he does. I can make him talk." I say. I'm done playing nice. She glances down and I know she doesn't want to make him.

After however long of us just staring at the radio, waiting, Abby walks in.
"He's awake." She says.

We walk to the airlock, and I stand in the back with Clarke.
"Who are you?" Kane asks.
"Carl Emerson. Mount Weather security detail."
"You should have died in the woods. We saved your life. Why not help us bring an end to all this?"
"Carl Emerson. Mount Weather security detail." He repeats.
"He's not gonna talk." Clarke mutters.
"Then let me have a go." I respond staring at the man who's sitting staring at us with a blank expression.

"He will if we open the door." Kane says. Abby walks over and presses a button.
"We are not doing that." She says before trying to walk away.
"We need to know what he knows. Vulnerabilities. Troop numbers."
"She's right. Torture doesn't work." Clarke says. I look over at her in shock.
"I've seen it work, first hand."
"It could save your friends." Kane says.
"I'm the chancellor!" Abby yells.
"Then act like one!" I almost gasp, that was a crazy thing of Kane to say, but he's right.

"I told you I would support you as long as you were doing the right thing."
"I am. And if you disagree convene a vote and take my place."
"I don't give a damn about the title. I just want to save our people."
"So do I."

Kane walks out and Abby turns to the guard.
"I want this man under 24-hour guard." She says and he nods, before she walks away too.

I look at Clarke and see her holding one of the two cylinder objects we found on Emerson.
"What the hell is that?" I ask.
"It keeps the reapers away." She says.
"Then we need more."
"That's why I'm taking this to Raven." She says. I nod watching her leave.

I look back at Emerson who is staring at me with a smug smile.
"If it were up to me, there would be a knife to your throat until you spoke." I admit before walking out as well.

A few hours later, Clarke, Kane, and I get called to the airlock.
"Did he say something?" I ask.
"No. But his blood did."
"Jackson found genetic marker anomalies that can only come from someone that was born on The Ark."
"It's started." Clarke says softly.
"They're bleeding them." I say coming to the decision that I will leave tonight if Bellamy doesn't say something now.

"We don't know that." Kane says.
"Yes, we do. We were genetically engineered. They weren't." Clarke says. I step towards him and Kane grabs me.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
"Killing him." He holds me back. "Get out of my way!" I yell while pulling my eyes away from Emerson to look at Kane.
"Calm down."
"Nova. You are not in charge here. We do things my way." Abby says. I glance back at Clarke before she walks out. I wait for Kane and Abby to turn around before grabbing the other reaper repellent and his ID card. I slip them both into my pocket as I continue to walk.

I walk out to my tent and start packing a bag. I make sure to grab a small handgun and extra ammo. Once I'm fully packed I start waking to the gate.
"Open it!" I yell to the guard. Abby and Kane run over to my side.
"Where do you think you're going?" Abby asks me as she stands in my way.
"I'm going to Mount Weather and seeing what's taking Bellamy so long." I respond before turning back to the gate.
"No, you're not." She says.

"And what makes you think you can stop me?" I ask turning my face to look at her. I don't care what she says or does, I'm walking out that gate.
"I am your chancellor." She says leaning closer to me.
"And I am the leader of the 100." I say in repeating her tone.
"Your ruling is over, Nova." She says glaring at me.
"No. My ruling has just begun." I respond, stepping away from her.

"Lock her up." She says. I pull out my knife and press it against the first guard to moves neck, causing him to freeze underneath my blade.
"I said I'm leaving. And anyone who tries to stop me will get their throat slit." I say pressing my knife in deeper. Out of the corner of my eye I see Indra watching me.

Abby nods and more guards step forward, as if in cue the grounders step in front of them. I've never felt more protected in my life.
"Mom, what are you doing?" Clarke tells running over before seeing me.
"Stopping her." She says looking at me.
"Let him go." She says.
"Not until I know he won't use this." I say kicking his shock baton out of his hand. I push him off and a grounder steps infront of him.

"You're going after him?" She asks looking at me. I nod. "What about the reapers?" I lift the reaper repellent.
"Covered."
"How are you getting in?"
"Also covered." I say not bringing the ID out. Clarke nods approvingly.

I turn to Abby.
"Look. My people are out there and they need me." I say. She stares at me for a few seconds before nodding. "Open the gate!" I yell. The gate starts to open and I step out before looking back at everyone watching me.
"Keep my brother safe." Octavia says smiling at me. I smile back giving her a quick nod. As if I'd let anything happen to Bellamy.
