Yoohyeon started her shift that day oblivious of what was about to come, but after a while, she accidentally came across to other interns gossiping about something that piqued her interest. Apperently, they heard that Chief Minji was going to choose people for her project later that day, and Yoohyeon soon found herself in panic.
After that small text Minji sent her a few days ago, wishing her luck with her speech, Yoohyeon didn't get to talk to her at all. She caught a glimpse of her a few times, but usually, it was her running towards an operating room, lecturing her doctors about something, or getting ready for an important meeting. And it wasn't like Yoohyeon was trying to find a chance to talk to her again, quite the opposite, actually. She has been scared to meet her one-on-one, just knowing that she wouldn't be able to utter one single word that didn't sound stupid.
And it was all Hana's fault, actually. Her teasing about 'having the hots for the chief' really started getting to her head, thinking that maybe she did like her. Minji was super pretty, really kind and just had the right aura about her. Yoohyeon always told herself that the woman was basically her boss and way older than her, but her friend managed to even make her question that reasoning.
And now, not only that, but the selection of the interns has been troubling her mind, too. A week ago, she would probably say that she didn't have any chance of getting into that surgery, but now... even if she wasn't sure, she really wanted to get it. Being in the same operation room with Minji, watching her do the surgery and helping her at times? It would be a dream come true for an intern like her.
However, she felt trouble breathing even thinking about it. Her speech last week had gone well, but compared to the other speakers it was pretty mediocre. The same goes for her performance in the tasks she had been given. Everything went pretty okay, but other interns outshined her. So why was she even hoping to be selected? There should be no reason to be picked.
Her thoughts got interrupted by her resident telling her to get back to work and stop daydreaming. She snapped out of it and apologized, jogging out towards the elevator.
She guessed half of her shift would be in the emergency room, again. As much as she wanted to get her own patients, she liked working in the ER. It was the most chaotic, disorganized and messy area in the whole hospital, but she connected with the patients more, and she helped so many people every hour.
Maybe it was even the place where you had the most chance to impress as an intern. It's where your emergency skills and ability to make quick decisions are put on display. With patients, you knew what was wrong and what you would do to treat them, but in the ER you often found yourself with no information at all.
She was at least relieved that there were no tourists who didn't speak Korean nor English this time.
A few hours went by, and when she finished taking care of the last patient, it was finally her lunch break, so she stood up, fixing her back and letting out a small groan when she felt pain in it.
She walked out of there and started to walk towards the cafeteria, thinking of getting coffee and a sandwich. Though before she would be able to even leave the floor, she caught sight of a few interns in a large group around the board, talking loudly about something. She furrowed her brows, stopping one of them who was approaching the board, too, and asked her what it was all about.
"Didn't you hear? Chief wrote the interns she chose for the project on the board!" The girl explained in an excited voice, joining the crowded interns.
Yoohyeon's heart started beating in her throat. The moment had finally arrived. She would find out if she had actually left an impression on Minji or not. Not as a person, of course, but as an intern. Or maybe both. Not that she wanted to leave an impression on her as herself but-... That was just her own mind trying to handle the stress and the doubts that Hana had put there.
