Your love's depths rival the ocean's expanse,

I find myself engulfed, drowning in its embrace.

It's daunting, this depth of feeling,

Yet, I yearn to plummet further.

To love you, and to be loved by you,

It's a marvel beyond compare,

The most breathtaking experience I've ever known.

Magnus

Magnus hurried into the hall with brisk steps. His gaze immediately fell upon the Unimog that Alec and his team had used for the risky journey to Kansas City. The once sturdy off-road vehicle looked like it had come straight from a battlefield. The windshield was shattered as if a fierce storm had whipped through it. The transport cabin bore deep dents and dings. The vehicle doors of the driver's cabin hung crookedly on their hinges, giving the impression of a hard collision.

Magnus' heart raced at the sight of the battered Unimog, and his worry for Alec and his team surged immeasurably. What the hell had happened?

Scanning the hall, Magnus spotted Alec at the other end of the garage. The alpha stood there with his team, his face tense, supporting Jace, who apparently couldn't stand alone. Alec looked worn out, but at first glance, he seemed uninjured. At least Magnus couldn't see anything serious from a distance.

Tessa was already with them, tending to Lena, who lay motionless on the floor. Garrett crouched beside her, assisting Tessa. Magnus couldn't spot Izzy and Andrew anywhere and hoped it didn't mean anything bad. He hurried over to them.

"Alec," he called out. "God, Alec, are you okay?"

Alec turned his head in his direction, a relieved, yet pleased expression appearing as their eyes met.

"I'm fine," Alec assured him.

Magnus let his gaze wander over the alpha. His face was unharmed, as was the protective suit he still wore- a good sign.

"What happened?" Magnus asked, although by now he could guess exactly what had happened.

"We encountered a horde of forsaken," Alec explained. "They nearly tore the vehicle apart. They were completely wild."

"Where are Izzy and Andrew? Are they...?" Magnus trailed off. He couldn't and didn't want to say it. Alec shook his head.

"No, they're fine," Alec said. "Lena took some hits, but everyone else is mostly okay."

Magnus let out a relieved sound.

"I thought..."

Alec reassuringly placed a hand on Magnus' shoulder.

"Magnus, we all made it back."

His voice sounded exhausted, and the signs of the hardships they had endured were evident on his face. Yet, there was a hint of a smile on his lips.

Magnus couldn't bear it any longer. The week of separation and the accompanying uncertainty had been unbearable for him. He took a step forward and pulled Alec's head down, ignoring the fact that Alec was still supporting his brother. Their lips met, and Magnus poured all the desperate longing of the past eight days into it. Alec released a surprised gasp, then returned the kiss with equal intensity.

Magnus held Alec's head between his hands, fingers digging into the alpha's thick locks. Involuntarily, he pressed closer, feeling Alec simultaneously wrap his hands around his waist.

Seconds later, Jace cried out in alarm. There was a dull thud followed by a painful groan. Magnus recoiled and blinked, feeling confused and slightly dazed. Shit... They had completely forgotten about Jace.
