The heavy rain kept pouring. It was barely past 5 p.m., yet the sky was a deep, almost foreboding shade of gray outside Jungkook’s office window. The cityscape, usually bustling with light and movement, was nearly obscured in the downpour, the headlights of cars barely visible through the sheets of rain. To make matters worse, Jungkook realized he’d left his umbrella back at home. He groaned, cursing himself for the oversight.
As he stepped outside, Jungkook pulled his coat tighter around him. He tried booking a cab, but the app showed a red notification flashing: High demand, no cabs available.
A wave of frustration washed over him.
Of course, it had to be Friday night, when everyone was trying to get home. Resigned, he made his way to a nearby waiting shed, hoping the rain would ease up soon. It was his only shelter, and after two long, cold hours, he was soaked to the bone, his coat hanging heavy on his shoulders, dripping with rainwater. To top it all off, his phone had died, leaving him completely stranded. He hugged himself, shivering as the wind whipped through the shed, each gust carrying the damp chill deeper into his skin.“What a day… no, scratch that… what a night,” he muttered through chattering teeth. All he wanted was to get home, curl up under a warm blanket, and pretend this night never happened.
Jungkook leaned back, taking a moment to reflect. He couldn’t shake the feeling that all of this was a cosmic joke—a little “karma” for defying his parents. They’d wanted him to take over the family business, but he’d walked away from it all, determined to prove he could live on his own terms. He’d sworn he didn’t need their wealth, their influence, or their connections. But here he was, drenched and stranded in a rainstorm, with no help in sight. It was like destiny was mocking him.
Still, he wasn’t about to give in. He wouldn’t crawl back to his parents, not after everything. This was his life, his choice, and he was determined to make it work. He wanted a future he could build with his own two hands, on his terms. And when he eventually settled down, he’d do it with someone he loved—not whoever his parents deemed suitable.
A faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth as he thought of his dream man, the one he’d admired from afar for years: Kim Seokjin. Seoul’s renowned athlete, swimmer, and the kind of man Jungkook never imagined he’d have a chance with. He’d seen Seokjin in countless interviews and sporting events, watched him glide through the water with effortless grace, and harbored a not-so-secret crush on him. But Seokjin was practically a celebrity; the idea of meeting him, let alone being with him, felt like a fantasy.
Jungkook was starting to lose hope. Just as he thought he’d have to spend the night in the shed, a sleek black car pulled up in front of him, the headlights cutting through the rain. The passenger window rolled down, and a voice called out, “Hop in! Quick!”
Jungkook hesitated, squinting through the rain. But the figure in the driver’s seat waved urgently, and something about the voice seemed both commanding and oddly familiar. With a deep breath, he sprinted toward the car, pulling the door open and sliding into the passenger seat. As soon as he closed the door, the car lurched forward, accelerating smoothly into the rain-soaked streets.
He took a moment to catch his breath, shaking the rain from his hair before he turned to thank his unexpected savior. But the words died on his lips when he saw who was behind the wheel.
