Kalroth was not used to being loved, not to mention cared about. Truthfully, he had grown to accept that he never could be.

And when it came to romance, he was utterly useless.

Kin was ecstatic when they got Koa back, but it wouldn't be the end of their issues. They were helping Ax, there would always be an issue. The party had traveled to an Inn for the night, Koa wanted to be alone. Kin and Ax shared a room, Xavier had his room and Adriel was with Sylfir and Raksa now.

Kalroth would normally just sit in Ax's room, but giving Kin and Ax time to be alone together seemed more important. Maybe they would finally realise what denial is.

He stood outside Koa's room, it was the only place he could go. He didn't like the sinking feeling in his stomach when knocking on the door.

He was never usually nervous.

His lack of a scarf was not helping, he felt exposed.

He swallowed down his fear and knocked. He heard movement inside but no response. He sighed and knocked again this time saying "It's Kal".

He heard a mumbled "come in" and opened the door. Walking in and closed the door behind himself, immediately looking at the bed and seeing Koa sitting there.

"Ya look rough" Kalroth blurts out without thinking, regret almost immediately sinking in. Normally he wouldn't care about what he said, but that was different when it was Koa, "Ah, uh, not in a bad way, 'a promise" he mumbles, fidgeting with his hands and looking at the floor.

Koa doesn't respond with words; he shrugs and looks away from Kalroth. It wasn't the best response, but a response, nonetheless. Kalroth walked over to the bed and sat down at the edge.

Kalroth always hated silence, this was no different.

"How ya holdin' up?" he asks, trying to start a conversation. Koa doesn't seem interested in talking however as he shrugs again.

"Ah, okay... ah can leave ya alone?"

Koa shakes his head.

"...uh, so you wan' me here?"

Koa shrugs.

Kalroth groans and covers his face, surprised when he hears a laugh coming from Koa's direction. "My misery is not funny, Koa!"

"But it is," Koa responds, Kalroth looks at him, removing his hands from his face. Koas smiling for once after everything he'd been through.

Kalroth raised an eyebrow and huffed, to his dismay, Koa seemed to find that amusing as well. The smile on Koa's face shifted into a smirk.

"Yer a bit of an asshole, aren'tcha?" Kalroth quips, a smile creeping up onto his face. He was happy that Koa seemed to be feeling a little better now.

"I didn't act like a saint when we met, you should've expected this." Koa retorts, but it's playful. Kalroth nods pretending to be deep in thought.

"Right, Puddle, was it?"

"Hah, you remembered that?"

"Well, that's what ya wanted me to call ya, darlin'" Kalroth smiles, tilting his head. He had been enjoying the conversation so much that he had almost forgotten about his neck.

Almost.

He raises his hand and places it on his neck, rubbing it subconsciously. He still smiles at Koa, but it's awkward.

It's silent for a moment, and Kalroth looks away from Koa. Just then he heard movement from Koa and a hand is placed over his own. His hand is moved away from his neck then Koa lets go of Kalroth's hand and he finally looks back at Koa.

Koa removes his scarf and wraps it around Kalroth's neck, using it to pull him forward to that their faces are closer.

"Are you okay Kal?" Koa asks, his voice is soft. He cares.

Kalroth can feel his face grow hot, Koa cares about him.

"Ah, uhm... am fine, sorry" is what he manages to make out, and Koa hums in response, properly wrapping the scarf around his neck. "Thank you," he mumbles, smiling at Koa again.

"'s nothing," Koa mutters, raising his hand and placing it on Kalroth's cheek "I still had to thank you anyway."

"Uh, yeah? For what?"

"Saving me?"

"Ah, oh that, ya don't have to thank me for that" Kalroth fumbles over his words, he's still so close to Koa. He can feel his face getting redder, he is far from used to intimate moments like this.

Koa doesn't seem interested in whatever Kalroth said, his hand moves to Kalroth's chin as he moves even closer to him on the bed.

This eye contact would be the death of Kalroth.

Koa's just so close, that he can feel the tieflings body heat. Koa's gaze is intense, Kalroth doesn't remember the last time someone looked at him like this, or if anyone ever has.

"Darlin'? -" he begins but Koa cuts him off.

"Can I kiss you?" and Kalroth just about drops dead, his eyes go wide, and he forgets how to speak for a moment.

"What. Uh 'a mean yeah, please do"

Koa laughed a little at his response but leaned in nonetheless, it was nothing like everyone else who'd kissed Kalroth before. It was sweet and gentle, it felt loving.

Kalroth eagerly reciprocated, his stomach doing flips. He'd never felt this strongly about another person before, it was so very foreign, but he liked it. It felt right. It felt like it lasted for so much longer than it did, when Koa pulled back, he grabbed Kalroth and dragged him down to lay on the bed with him. Koas arms wrapped around his waist keeping him close.

Kalroth knew he looked like a wreck, but it didn't matter, he was smiling like he hadn't in years.

Koa looked beautiful, Kalroth couldn't fathom why the tiefling would be holding him like this. He wouldn't complain, he felt safe, he felt loved.

He loved Koa, there was no point in him denying it now.

He rested his head against Koa's chest, he could feel Koa's hand subconsciously rubbing his back. Love always seemed out of reach for Kalroth, he never expected someone to actually feel like this towards him. Especially not someone who he felt the same way about.

He didn't notice that he'd begun to cry until he heard Koa's voice "Kal, are you alright?"

Not knowing how to respond he pressed his face against Koas chest further, he felt safe here.

Koa moved back a bit so he could see Kalroth's face, he moved his hands from Kalroth's back to cup his face and get Kalroth to look at him "What's wrong, babe?" he asked as he wiped the tears from Kalroth's face.

"Nothin'..hah, 's nothin' doll" he offers, smiling up at Koa. It doesn't seem to help Koas worry though, "I jus' didn't think this could ever happen, y'know?"

Koa raises an eyebrow, "what?"

"Doesn't matter, am jus' happy is all darlin'" he says, placing his own hands over Koas "Really happy."

Koa simply nods, understanding. He moves a little and kisses Kalroth again, and God for a moment Kalroth could forget everything he's ever done wrong. When Koa inevitably breaks the kiss Kalroth pushes Koa down onto his back, clambering on top of him. Koa looked surprised, his face flushed and his eyes wide.

Kalroth looked down at Koa and smiled, wiping his eyes before kissing all over Koa's face. He wanted to make the tiefling feel just as loved as he did.

that was his new goal, to make Koa happy, and he was going to try his damn best to achieve it.
