As the carriage carried Alaric back to his family’s mansion, he couldn't help but replay the events of the past few days in his mind. The interactions with Cedric, Gabriel, and Prince Lucian had left his heart beating faster.
He knew he was attracted to them,(he was gay)but he also knew he needed to keep those feelings in check. They were not for him, he reminded himself. He had to live a longer, peaceful life, and now he had the means to enjoy it.
When he reached home, he was greeted warmly by his father, the Marquis. Despite his busy schedule, the Marquis had always found time to care for Alaric, especially after the death of Alaric’s mother. It was his father's unwavering love and support that had kept Alaric from completely falling apart.
"Welcome back, Alaric. How was your stay at the Duke's?" his father asked, his eyes filled with concern and affection.
"It was good, Father. The Duke was very hospitable," Alaric replied, managing a smile.
"That's good to hear. I was worried about you," the Marquis said, patting Alaric's shoulder.
Alaric nodded, feeling a wave of warmth and gratitude towards his father. He remembered the game’s storyline where his father became depressed and ill after Alaric's death. He was determined to prevent that from happening. As an orphan in his previous life, he understood the value of family and was grateful for this second chance.
The next few days passed peacefully. Alaric fell into a comfortable routine, enjoying the tranquility of his home. He spent time with his father, ensuring their bond remained strong. He also met up with his only true friend from the game, who had always been kind and loyal.
"Alaric, you seem different lately," his friend remarked one afternoon as they strolled through the gardens. "More mature, I guess. I like it."
Alaric smiled, feeling a sense of relief. "Thank you. I guess I'm just trying to make the most of things."
His friend nodded, accepting the new Alaric with some doubt but it resolved,as this Alaric is much like the Alaric in past when they were kids . They spent the afternoon talking and laughing, the burdens of their respective lives momentarily forgotten.
Alaric felt a growing sense of contentment. He was no longer the reckless, spoiled character from the game. He was forging a new path, one where he could cherish the family and friends he had been blessed with. And though the charms of the gongs still affected him, he resolved to stay true to his goal of living a long, fulfilling life.
