Although Alaric had slept late that night, he woke up early in the morning. Fibi, ever diligent, helped him get ready, her hands deftly arranging the elegant dress that had been delivered to him. It was a stunning outfit, designed to highlight his natural grace and beauty.
Alaric couldn't help but blush as he recalled the strange events of yesterday afternoon and his interaction with Lucian. Just as the memory brought color to his cheeks, a knock sounded at the door.
Fibi hurried to open it and found Lucian standing there. She saluted the prince, and Alaric, feeling the heat rise to his face, greeted him with a slight bow.
"Good morning, Alaric," Lucian said with a warm smile. "Shall we go to the party?"
Alaric blinked in confusion, his brow furrowing slightly. "I... I thought I was going with Prince Elias," he stammered.
Lucian's smile widened, a glint of amusement in his eyes. "Ah, yes. Yesterday, when you fell asleep, I spoke with Elias. I suggested that if I were to escort you to the party, it might help ease the tension and clear any remaining doubts about the accusations. Elias agreed, considering that my presence might help dispel any lingering rumors and provide you with additional support."
The explanation made sense to Alaric, and he felt a wave of relief wash over him. Lucian's presence had always been a source of comfort, and the thought of having him by his side during the party was reassuring.
Lucian extended his hand towards Alaric. "Shall we?" he repeated, his voice gentle but firm.
Blushing deeply, Alaric placed his hand in Lucian's, feeling a rush of warmth and security. Together, they walked towards the grand hall where the party was to be held, the anticipation and nervousness mingling in the air between them.
As they neared the hall, Alaric couldn't help but glance up at Lucian, grateful for his support. Lucian caught his gaze and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. "Remember, I'm here with you," he said softly, his words a balm to Alaric's anxious heart.
The doors to the grand hall opened, revealing a beautifully decorated space filled with guests. The opulence of the room was breathtaking, with crystal chandeliers casting a warm glow over the gathering. Alaric took a deep breath, steadying himself for the night ahead.
Lucian led him inside, their hands still intertwined. As they entered, the guests turned to look at them, whispers spreading through the crowd. Alaric felt the weight of their gazes, but with Lucian by his side, he found the strength to hold his head high.
Elias was already inside, watching them with a mixture of curiosity and something else Alaric couldn't quite place. He approached them, his expression unreadable. "Alaric, you look stunning," Elias said, his eyes lingering on Alaric's dress.
"Thank you, Prince Elias," Alaric replied, feeling the intensity of Elias's gaze.
Elias turned his attention to Lucian, his smile polite but strained. "Thank you for escorting Alaric, Lucian. I hope you'll both enjoy the evening."
Lucian nodded, his grip on Alaric's hand tightening slightly. "Of course, Elias. We're looking forward to it."
With that, the party began in earnest. Music filled the hall, and the guests mingled, their conversations a low hum in the background. Despite the grandeur and the festive atmosphere, Alaric couldn't shake the feeling of tension simmering beneath the surface.
As the evening wore on, Elias called for the attention of the guests. He stood at the center of the room, his regal presence commanding silence. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have an important announcement to make," he began, his voice carrying authority. "Last night, an unfortunate misunderstanding occurred involving Alaric. It has come to our attention that he was wrongfully accused of a crime he did not commit."
The guests murmured among themselves, curiosity and surprise evident in their expressions. Alaric felt his heart race, a mix of anxiety and hope swirling within him.
Elias continued, "After a thorough investigation, we have identified the true culprit. It was not Alaric, but a member of our own staff who attempted to frame him. The individual has been dealt with appropriately and will face justice for their actions."
A wave of relief washed over Alaric as he heard the words. The weight of suspicion that had hung over him was finally being lifted in a public declaration. He glanced at Lucian, who gave him a reassuring smile, squeezing his hand gently.
The guests' murmurs grew louder, this time filled with sympathy and understanding. Many nodded in acknowledgment, their previous doubts and suspicions dissipating.
As the announcement concluded, Elias approached Alaric and Lucian. "I hope this clears your name, Alaric," he said, his tone softer than before. "And I hope you can enjoy the rest of the evening."
"Thank you, Prince Elias," Alaric replied, his voice filled with gratitude. "I appreciate your efforts in clearing my name."
Elias nodded, his gaze lingering on Alaric for a moment longer before he turned to mingle with the other guests.
Throughout the night, both Lucian and Elias stayed close to Alaric, their unspoken rivalry creating an undercurrent of tension that only he could feel. Each time Elias's gaze lingered on him, Alaric felt a shiver run down his spine, the memory of their earlier encounter still fresh in his mind. And each time Lucian's hand brushed against his, he felt a rush of warmth, a silent promise of protection.
Alaric couldn't help but notice Julian's absence. The game should, who had always been a constant presence at such events, was nowhere to be seen. The absence gnawed at Alaric, adding another layer of unease to the evening.
As the party continued, Elias approached Alaric and Lucian once more. "May I have a moment with Alaric?" he asked, his tone polite but firm.
Lucian's eyes narrowed slightly, but he nodded. "Of course, Elias."
Elias led Alaric to a quieter corner of the hall, away from the prying eyes of the guests. "I wanted to apologize again for the misunderstanding," he said, his voice low. "And to thank you for your patience."
Alaric nodded, feeling a mixture of gratitude and apprehension. "Thank you, Prince Elias. I appreciate your help in clearing my name."
Elias's gaze softened, and for a moment, Alaric saw a flicker of something deeper in his eyes. "I hope we can move past this and build a better understanding between us," Elias said, his voice tinged with sincerity.
Alaric nodded, feeling a strange warmth in Elias's words. "I would like that, Prince Elias."
Elias smiled, a rare and genuine expression that made Alaric's heart skip a beat. "Please, call me Elias."
Before Alaric could respond, Lucian approached them, his expression unreadable. "Is everything alright?" he asked, his eyes flicking between Alaric and Elias.
"Yes, everything is fine," Elias replied smoothly, his smile never wavering. "I was just making sure Alaric is comfortable."
Lucian nodded, his gaze lingering on Elias for a moment longer before turning to Alaric. "Shall we rejoin the party?"
Alaric nodded, feeling the tension between the two princes but grateful for their support. As they walked back to the main hall, he couldn't shake the feeling that the night had only just begun and that the real challenges were yet to come.
