As Alaric and Gabriel opened the door, they were greeted by the official, who had a wide smile on his face. "Father Gabriel, Lord Alaric! The situation is looking much better now. The disease has been brought under control, and with this rain, the drought might soon be a thing of the past."

Relief washed over Alaric and Gabriel. They exchanged a brief look before following the official to the meeting room. The rain continued to pour outside, with occasional flashes of lightning illuminating the sky.

In the meeting, the city lord, officials, and priests gathered around a large table. The city lord spoke first, his voice tinged with relief. "Thanks to the combined efforts of everyone here, the disease has been contained.
The rain will replenish our water sources, and the crops should recover soon. We must continue to monitor the situation closely, but I believe we are over the worst of it."

Gabriel nodded, "Indeed. The priests will remain vigilant, but with the rain, we can focus more on healing and less on preventing further outbreaks."

One of the officials added, "We've also made progress in distributing clean water and rations. The people are in good spirits, thanks to the rain and the care they've received."

Alaric, ever observant, chimed in, "We'll need to ensure that the orphanage in the alley is also well-supported. The children there were in poor condition when we visited."

The city lord agreed, "We'll make sure they receive the supplies they need. The orphanage has always struggled, but we'll prioritize their needs moving forward."

As they continued their discussions, the rain outside intensified, accompanied by a loud clap of thunder.

The room fell silent for a moment before resuming the conversation. The sound of the rain seemed almost soothing now, a sign that things were finally turning for the better.

The next morning, after a hearty breakfast, Alaric and Gabriel set out for the hospital and various other places to ensure everything was in order. They walked through the town, noting the smiles on the faces of the townspeople. The rain had brought not just water but hope.

During their survey, Gabriel remarked, "It's amazing how quickly the atmosphere has changed. Just yesterday, there was despair, and now... hope."

Alaric nodded, "The rain is a blessing, but so was everyone's hard work. The people needed to see that they weren't alone in this."

They eventually made their way back to the orphanage in the alley. The children greeted them with smiles, and Alaric handed out some fruits. The child they had healed the previous day looked much better, his fever gone.

Martha, the woman running the orphanage, expressed her gratitude, "Thank you both for everything you've done. The children... they wouldn't have made it without you."

Gabriel, ever humble, replied, "It's our duty to help. We're just glad we could make a difference."

As they left the orphanage, the sky darkened once again, and soon, the rain began to fall. Alaric and Gabriel hurried back to the mansion, trying to avoid getting soaked. By the time they reached their quarters, they were both drenched.

Inside, they quickly changed into dry clothes. Gabriel noticed Alaric sitting at a desk, engrossed in paperwork, with his hair still wet. Gabriel grabbed a towel and walked over to him. "You shouldn't let your hair stay wet," he said softly.

Alaric blushed as Gabriel began to rub his hair dry. "Thank you," Alaric murmured, reaching for the towel, but Gabriel gently pushed his hand away. "Let me do it," Gabriel insisted, his voice low and soothing.

Alaric felt his heart race as Gabriel's fingers gently massaged his scalp through the towel. The closeness, the warmth of Gabriel's presence, and the tender care in his actions created an intimate moment between them. Alaric could feel Gabriel's breath on his neck, sending shivers down his spine.

Just as the tension in the air began to build, a sudden knock on the door broke the moment. They both froze, the atmosphere thick with unspoken emotions. The knock came again, and Gabriel reluctantly stepped back, allowing Alaric to answer.

"It’s time for dinner," a servant announced from the other side of the door.

Alaric and Gabriel exchanged a brief, knowing look, the moment they shared still lingering in the air. "We'll be down shortly," Alaric replied, his voice slightly shaky.

As the door closed, they both took a moment to compose themselves, the earlier tension still lingering in the room. There was a silent understanding between them, a mutual recognition of something growing stronger between them, yet neither was quite ready to voice it.
