The next day, Alaric was awakened by the sound of birds chirping outside his window. As he stretched and got out of bed, Fibi entered the room with a tray of breakfast and an excited look on her face.
“Young master, have you heard the news? Father Gabriel has returned!” Fibi announced.
“Really? That’s good to hear. What about Prince Lucian?” Alaric asked, hope rising in his chest.
Fibi shook her head. “Unfortunately, Prince Lucian has not returned yet. The situation at the border areas has improved, but there are still some tensions and problems. There’s also some gossip about a drought affecting those regions.”
Alaric frowned, thinking about the impact this would have on the people living there. “That’s troubling. I hope they get the help they need.”
In the afternoon, Alaric’s father returned from the palace with a serious expression. “Alaric, there’s something you need to know,” he said, handing Alaric a letter sealed with the official royal seal.
Alaric opened the letter and read its contents:
Dear Alaric,
"Due to the recent drought and ongoing issues at the border areas, His Majesty has decided to send nobles and their children to assist with relief efforts and share the responsibility of restoring stability. You have been assigned to help the affected region, accompanied by Father Gabriel."
"Your presence and assistance will be invaluable during this time of need. We trust you will represent your family and the kingdom with honor and diligence."
Sincerely
[Royal Seal]
Alaric looked up from the letter, processing the news. His father continued, “Even Julian, the ambassador, has requested to help. His Majesty has sent him along with Duke Cederic to manage an area. Julian’s willingness to assist is commendable.”
Alaric nodded absentmindedly, his mind drifting to the thought of Julian and Duke Cederic spending time together. A strange pang of jealousy tugged at his heart. He knew he should trust Cederic, and it wasn’t as if they had officially started dating, but the thought of Julian’s feelings for the Duke was unsettling.
He retreated to his room, wrestling with his emotions. “Is it right to feel this way?” he wondered. “I should trust Cederic. But still, it hurts knowing Julian likes him.”
Determined to push these thoughts aside, Alaric began preparing for his departure the next day. He thought of Gabriel, whom he hadn’t had a proper conversation with in a long time. Gabriel seemed different from how others perceived him, and Alaric was curious to understand him better.
In the evening, Fibi handed Alaric a letter from Duke Cederic. He opened it eagerly and read:
Dear Alaric
I hope this letter finds you well. As you may have heard, I am also being sent to assist with the relief efforts at the border. Please take care of yourself during this time.
I will be waiting for your answer when we meet again. Know that my feelings have not changed, and I look forward to our next encounter.
Yours,
Cederic
P.S. "I have included a small gift for you. I hope it brings you some comfort."
Alaric’s heart fluttered and a blush spread across his cheeks as he read the letter. He opened the accompanying package to find a beautiful painting of himself, skillfully captured in vibrant colors. He hanged that photo on the wall.
That night, Alaric’s father checked on his preparations. “Remember to ask Priest Gabriel for help if you need it. Don’t stress yourself too much, and take care of yourself,” he advised.
As Alaric drifted to sleep, his mind swirled with thoughts of Cederic, Gabriel, and the responsibilities awaiting him.
That night he had a 😴💭dream .
In his dream, Alaric found himself in a dimly lit room, the air heavy with an intoxicating mix of incense and mystery. He was seated on someone's lap, their arms wrapped around him possessively.
The warmth of their body radiated through him, igniting a blend of comfort and tension. Across the room, two figures stood in the shadows, their eyes glinting with unspoken emotions.
The atmosphere was charged with a heady mix of desire and anticipation, making his heart race. He could feel the steady heartbeat of the person beneath him, a silent promise of protection and passion.Suddenly his legs were caught by a hand and someone pinched his face, feeling a warm breath near his ear. "Please.. Uhh".
But suddenly the scene changed and someone shouted that " They are mine, give them back you thief. ".then another voice came " Give me back my body, you thief.....you killed me "
" No.. No I didn't, I am not a thief, I didn't...I didn't killed anyone ".
Startled he awoke. The dream left him feeling both exhilarated and deeply confused, stirring emotions he had buried deep within himself. He had always lamented that he had stolen someone else's body, grappling with the Duke's affection, Lucian's care, and the love and support of others. Was he truly a thief, taking what rightfully belonged to the real Alaric and Julian? .
Despite these doubts, he didn't regret his new life—a life filled with family, friends, and someone to care for. He was, perhaps, a bit greedy for these things, treasures he never had in his previous existence. As the night wore on, Alaric finally drifted back to sleep, his mind slowly settling into a restless peace.
