The next morning, Alaric prepared himself for the journey ahead. He dressed in simple yet elegant clothes suitable for travel and headed to the church. From there, nobles, priests, and officials would depart for various drought-stricken locations. As he arrived, he was greeted and led to a room where several priests, an official, and Gabriel were already gathered.

"Good morning, Alaric," Gabriel greeted him with a warm smile.

"Good morning Ga...Priest Gabriel and Good morning everyone," Alaric replied, taking a seat beside Gabriel.

The official briefed everyone on their duties and expectations, ensuring they were well-prepared for the tasks ahead. After the meeting, they made their final preparations for the journey.

allowing them some time to catch up. "How have you been, Alaric?" Gabriel asked, concern evident in his voice. "We haven't had a proper conversation since I returned."

"I've been well, just busy with everything going on," Alaric responded, trying to keep his tone light. "How was your journey to the border with Prince Lucian?"

Gabriel's eyes darkened slightly as he recounted the experience. "It was intense. The situation was more complex than we initially thought, but we managed to stabilize things. Prince Lucian was remarkable under pressure. It's a shame he couldn't return yet."

They discussed their plans for aiding the drought-hit area, focusing on how the priests would help those with diseases and how rations would be distributed. The conversation flowed naturally, but there was an undercurrent of tension that neither could ignore.

That night, they stayed at a crowded hotel in a nearby city, deciding to share a room due to the lack of available accommodations. After dinner, they entered their room, the air thick with unspoken emotions.

Alaric felt the need to take a bath to relax. As he emerged, feeling refreshed, he saw Gabriel sitting by the window. Their eyes met, and Alaric's mind flashed to a romantic scene from a drama. He quickly shook his head to dispel the thought, but a blush crept up his cheeks.

Gabriel swallowed hard, then stood and walked toward Alaric. They stared into each other's eyes, the moment charged with ambiguity. Gabriel extended his hand, and Alaric's heart raced.

He gently took the towel from his hands, tenderly drying his hair, his fingers grazing Alaric skin, sending shivers down his spine. The air between them grew thick with tension.

"Don't let your hair stay wet; you'll catch a cold," Gabriel said
"I'll go take a bath."

Gabriel hurried to the bathroom, breaking the tension. Alaric quickly dried his hair and climbed into bed, covering his face to hide his embarrassment. After a while, he began to feel normal again.

Gabriel emerged from the bathroom, wearing a simple shirt and slacks that accentuated his figure. Alaric couldn't help but stare, his eyes tracing the lines of Gabriel's body. When Gabriel looked at him, Alaric quickly averted his gaze and pulled the blanket up to his face, making Gabriel chuckle.

Gabriel approached the bed with a quiet intensity, his presence filling the small room. Alaric's heart raced as Gabriel bent down, their faces mere inches apart.

Alaric could feel Gabriel's warm breath against his skin, his own breath hitching in his throat. Gabriel's eyes locked onto Alaric's, holding his gaze with a magnetic pull that made it impossible to look away.

Slowly, Gabriel's hand reached behind Alaric, fingers brushing against the pillow. The air between them was charged, every movement deliberate and heavy with unspoken tension.

For a moment, it seemed as though Gabriel might lean in further, but then he straightened up, the pillow in his grasp. "Good night....Alaric" he murmured, his voice low and husky. Alaric's mind swirled with confusion and longing as Gabriel walked away to the sofa, leaving Alaric to wonder.....

Alaric wanted to suggest they share the bed, but he couldn't find his voice. He remained silent, thinking he wouldn't be able to sleep, but exhaustion soon claimed him.

For Gabriel, however, the night was long and restless, filled with thoughts he couldn't quite shake, for a moment he thought he will kiss Alaric but he controlled himself.
