Narrator POV:
Days later, the promised cure had yet to arrive and everyone felt anxious because of it. Adora argued that she could just rewind time to heal herself but without knowing what consequences would follow, she was reluctant to do so, trusting that the cure was going to be arriving shortly
"What's keeping them so long?" Catra walked up and down the room, staring out of the Window ever so often "They should have arrived yesterday at the latest"
"Calm yourself... Netossa won't disappoint us"
"How can you be sure?"
"I've known her for long enough to understand that she would not break a promise made in earnest"
"Like she promised to serve your mother?" the hybrid asked, not hiding the sarcastic edge in her tone and the princess had no answer to that. She noticed how irritated Catra had become lately and tried not to antagonize her right now, feeling as if she'd likely lose any argument, on account of her condition
With not much to do, the two spend hours just talking and watching Adoras health deteriorate slowly and agonizingly. Adam had taken Lonnie to watch out for any Ships or for any movement of the Church fleet that still anchored near the harbor while Mermista took to watch over her Parents
"We need to do something..." Catra said
"You have an idea, pray tell?"
"No but anything is better than just sitting here and do nothing"
"Then... let's ta.." Adora's sentence was cut short by a coughing fit that made her reach for the water goblet
"How about I talk and you listen?" the princess nodded "How... how about you answer me... what am I to you?"
"... right now?"
"Right this minute" she said, biting her lower lip and sitting down beside the bed "I understand that you still have doubts and I don't blame you for them but I fear that this plan of yours is going to cause either one of us meet an untimely end... and I wish to know what you think of me, should anything happen to me"
"Nothing wi..."
"You can't know that" she interrupted "We are on a warpath, fighting to change the country, maybe the World, in ways not many would be able to fathom... and now there are the Church, Assasins and now, fucking Dragons... I'm sorry that I fail to be the optimist to think we both come out unscathed by the end of this"
Athena's words reverberated in Adoras head, reminding her of the way to sever the connection of the Planes. Catra may not be wrong, so she chose honesty "You.. are irreplaceable, Catra... Not anyone in this world or the next could be your equal and I believe myself incapable to feel anything for you but love... a love I plan on feeling all one day and take over my whole being, consume every bit of me until the day I die"
"Then.. then why won't you act on it now? Why else but call this proof that you still doubt my loyalty and love for you"
"I don't... I just can't risk anyone knowing about it... not yet"
"Why?" she asked, fearing the answer already
"Because liberation of your kin can not happen from someone who they will see as a foolish Girl who believes in something they would view as "delusional feelings of youth"... It needs to happen because the rules state it"
"So.. you want to be with me but can't let anyone else know?"
"Yes... forgive me but this selfishness I allow myself to free us all"
