Narrator POV:
After Their successful mission, Adora became bedridden for the next week, her body tortured by fever and muscle cramps that caused her to wake up screaming through the first nights. Raka had sent a physician to look at her, who then called a spiritual healer to aid them. She took one look at the princess, took out a vial and held it to her lips "Drink it. You'll feel better in a few days" she said and left, muttering "Fucking amateurs, can't even see mana drain when it's right in front of them..." among other cursewords that soon followed.
Adam took Catra aside when Adora had finally fallen asleep. The Guilt of losing her temper and ignoring his sister's condition, albeit momentarily, weighed heavy on her Heart and he knew it. They stood outside, on a Balcony of the Palace they had been granted a room in and leaned against the railing "You need to stop blaming yourself for such a minor thing, Catra"
"I could have gotten her killed...how can I just get over that?" Catra sighed, remembering the rage taking over. Her revenge was, at one point, everything to her, her hatred becoming the nourishment that made her life worth something, sustaining her even when she was in pain, hungry or alone....but meeting Adora, changed her "I don't ever want to be the reason she suffers....again"
"You really did a number on her when you listened to mother, that's for sure" Adam remarked but stopped himself when her ears started to droop "but...she forgave you anyway. My Sister loves you more than her own life and now she just needs time to let herself feel it again. Our plan...how much did she tell you?"
"Not much" she shrugged
"When she came to me for help, she wanted to go here immediately and start a War with our Parents"
"Wait what?"
"She was hellbend of gaining power to change the Law" he grinned, enjoying the obvious confusion on Catras face "You know that Greenvale has laws against two of the same Gender being together, right?" she nodded "It also has them for hybrids who wish to be with Humankind, my Sister being the reason your kin are no longer treated as slaves...but she intended to go a lot further. She wants to make any union between consenting Adults legal and give every Hybrid statehood, making them official subjects of the realm"
"...WHAT?" She shouted, staring at Adam in disbelief "That would never happen....the Church alone would have her marked as a Heretic for just saying that, Princess or not"
"They would and if you think you're surprised, you should have seen our Parents when she told them" He laughed wholeheartedly "They would have forced her to be married to someone by now, had she not also hinted that she'd kill any future suitor and make sure they'd never be able to prove that she was behind it"
Catra couldn't believe what her former lover was planning but could hardly pretend that she expected less of her "She always thinks bigger than we all, doesn't she"
"And that's why I help her" Adam proclaimed proudly "Because it's that kind of thinking that will cause our World to become a better place. Her ideas may sound insane to us but to her, it's the inevitable future that awaits us" he said, coming close to sounding manic before clearing his throat "I...at least believe so"
"So do I" Catra said, walking back inside "...all we need to, do to archive that, is keep her alive"
"Easier said than done"
---
Adora continued to be chained to the bed for another week, Adam making sure that their plans were not derailed too much by getting them a Ship ready to take them over a small channel to the open sea at a moments notice, while Catra never left her side for long. They had started to talk about a lot of things they used to avoid around each other, consciously or otherwise and Adora made a startling new discovery
