Facing the Future - Part 18

Alastor sat quietly, holding his phone in his hand. The room was dim, and Lucifer's soft breathing was the only sound breaking the silence. After their argument and Lucifer's emotional breakdown, Alastor had managed to calm him down, leading to Lucifer falling asleep in his arms. Now, hours later, Alastor's phone buzzed, bringing him back to reality.

Alastor: Hey, I won't be coming back to the dorm tonight.

Niffty: y not? everything ok?

Husk: yeah, wats goin on, Al?

Alastor: Something's happened with Lucifer. He got fired today.

Niffty: 😲 OMG! y???

Angel: wtf? wat did he do?

Alastor: It's complicated. Chaz reported our relationship to the principal, and Lucifer got fired because of it.

Niffty: thats so unfair! 😡 how's lucifer holding up?

Alastor: Not well. He's really stressed about how he's going to support Charlie.

Husk: man, thats rough. anything we can do?

Niffty: we can come over n help out w/ charlie if Lucifer's ok w/ it. u guys need support right now!

Alastor: I appreciate the offer, Niffty. I'll ask Lucifer when he wakes up.

Angel: seriously, tho. screw Chaz. wat a jerk.

Alastor: Agreed. But right now, the focus is on helping Lucifer.

Niffty: I'll bring snacks n some toys 4 charlie. keep us updated, ok? 🧸🍪

Alastor: I will. Thank you all. It means a lot.

Husk: hang in there, man.

Lucifer stirred, his eyes fluttering open as he slowly came back to consciousness. Alastor watched him closely, noting the immediate return of stress and worry in Lucifer's expression. Lucifer sat up abruptly, reaching for his phone and checking the time.

"How long was I asleep?" Lucifer muttered, panic creeping into his voice. "I didn't check on Charlie."

"Charlie is fine," Alastor reassured him gently. "She's been watching a movie and playing quietly in her room. I've been keeping an eye on her."

Lucifer exhaled, visibly relieved but still tense. "Thank you, Alastor."

"Angel, Husk, and Niffty offered to come over and watch Charlie," Alastor continued. "I thought it might give us some time to figure things out."

Lucifer nodded, rubbing his temples. "That's...that's fine. As long as they don't blow the place up."

Alastor chuckled softly. "They'll be on their best behavior. I promise."

Lucifer sighed deeply, leaning back against the couch. "I still can't believe this is happening. I've lost my job...how am I supposed to take care of Charlie now?"

"We'll figure it out," Alastor said, his voice firm but gentle. "You're not alone in this. We'll find a way."

Lucifer shook his head, frustration evident in his eyes. "I just...I thought I was doing everything right. And now...this."

Alastor reached out, placing a hand on Lucifer's shoulder. "You've been an amazing father, Lucifer. This isn't your fault. Chaz is the one who caused this mess, not you."
