Natalie hurried herself through the front doors of the school. "Heyo- Sorry for being late, overslept and had to drive in."
"What's your first class..."
"Calculus, right down the hall."
"Mmmm... don't do it again."
She snatched the pink slip out of the clerk's hands; she couldn't miss any more time in class. "Mhm okay thank you sweet-"
"Alright y'all, homeworks 1-20 are due, end of the period, interims."
"Can we uh- can we wait a little while later?"
"Natalie, you're supposed to be doing these while they are assigned."
"Ehhhh, it's fiiiine-"
"No, it's really not, I can't give you extra time."
"I'll get it done, always do!"
"You'd better finish."
"Hey..."
"Erm- hi...?"
"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting... Am I- uh-"
"Nope, I'm never doing stuff, what's up?"
"Do you know when Alexandra is around?"
"Ally? I can set y'all up at lunch. What's up?"
"I just... sorry, I- we just have good conversation."
"No need to be scared of me, Adri! She needs a partner, if I'm being completely honest."
"I uh-"
"Ah- y'all aren't a thing yet? She's a nice girl."
"I wasn't- where did you get that from...?"
"Well I mean, I figured since y'all were getting closer and you might be dating."
"Okay, so you guys sit together at lunch?"
"Mhhm!! Looking forward to seeing you!"
"Yeah- sure-"
"Why so serious?"
"He puts the blade in my mouth, why so serious?"
"Love that moviee-"
"Saw it in theaters. Showcase."
"Dudee, no way you went up to Nashville for that? I remember seeing Dark Knight at the Orchid when I was like, eight."
"My parents wouldn't go there, my dad is pretty chill about driving."
"My mom wouldn't drive up there just to see a movie, pfft-"
"My mom would just let my dad drive her, being completely real."
"Out of curiosity- are your parents shitty too?"
"No-? Uh-"
"Just- asking. Trauma!"
"Yeah... sure-"
"Is thaaat all?"
"Yeah-"
"Bro is more autistic than I am."
Adri just kind of side eyed her.
"I'd better be getting this work done, I guess."
...
Alexandra shook some salt from her fry with a blank expression, just staring at the stick of fried potato for a moment. But she snapped back to attention when she heard Adri's soft voice behind her.
