A Week Later
Lola really did wonder why the house was so empty. Such a massive place, practically a mansion, all empty.
She'd known there were parental issues happening now that Natalie was hospitalized. She just hadn't expected both to be absent.
"Hello? Hellooo?"
Nothing except for the faint chime of the door, as she stepped into their thin white kitchen ununterrupted.
"Nobody home? Hello? Guinevere?" She tried calling for Natalie's sister; nothing but silence.
"Hiii, cutie- yeahhh, you like your scratches, good girl." She gingerly scratched the maine coon behind her ears.
"Yeahhh, who's a good kitty. Who's a dapper little girl."
"Nightwhisper." Guinevere tried to get her cat to come back to her. "You're not supposed to just allow people in."
"What's up?"
"Just... plugging along."
"You seem like you're surviving."
"Bold assumption."
"I mean, you're alive?"
"Mmph."
"Oh... I'm not helping, am I?"
"Wonder what tipped you off there."
"Hey! Don't get sarcastic!"
"I'll try not to."
"You wouldn't give lip to your sister."
"WELL YOU'RE NOT MY FUCKING SISTER, NOW ARE YOU?"
"You're really struggling-"
"WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE IF LIKE, YOU'RE JUST GONNA BOTHER ME?"
"Sorry for wanting to help you, shit-"
"Not everyone appreciates your posh ass."
"At least one of us is presentable."
"Take this up with my fucking mother if you wanna say stuff like that."
"I'm trying to be reasonable here, and-"
"No, you're not being reasonable! Just let me-"
"I'm not the one raising-"
"You had no reason to even-"
"I'm out. Yep. You win! You win, Guinevere!" But Lola couldn't just walk off in peace. "And I'm not posh... you're wealthier than-"
"Oh, you're one to fucking talk-"
"I'm not, I just look good-"
"Are you saying I'm ugly? Well fuck you!"
"Why would I-"
"Y'all are a bunch of fucking assholes, you, my mom, my dad."
"Stop. If you can't calmly explain-"
"I DON'T OWE YOU A FUCKING EXPLANATION. YOU'RE NATALIE'S GIRLFRIEND, YOU AREN'T MY FAMILY."
"I NEVER SAID I WAS?"
"I KNOW YOU LIKE TO ASSUME YOU CAN JUST WALTZ IN HERE, BUT NATALIE ISN'T HERE."
"I'M SORRY FOR EVEN COMING."
...
"Hey... feeling okay?"
"Mmph."
"Wanna- watch some Avatar?"
