Part 3
"Remember your roots, but never forget to spread your wings and soar."
2 years later
"Look who it is! What's up, kid?"
"How's business?"
"It's pretty damn slow 'round now- you?"
"Just- Rhodes, lit program."
"Yeaaah, nice! Nat would'a loved it!"
"Pfft, Natalie would've been lucky to get into clown school."
"You gonna get into library work?"
"I was considering librarianship, yes."
"Girl, why so stuffy? It's me!"
"I mean, I'm just not her spitting image. You're one to talk."
"University of Idaho, vet medicine."
"As I said, you're one to talk about being stuffy, always the spiffiest one in the room."
"Just being presentable."
"I'm amazed to see you getting dirty-"
"Ah- well- I'm on break from classiness right now. These apples won't pick emselves."
"Do you... need help...? Or something?"
"Well whatcha up to?"
"I- erm- just a- pie- pumpkin-"
"Just one?"
"Nahhh, three, three pumpkin."
"Yeaaah, that's 50.38."
"These better be some tasty ass pies."
"Girl, it's called making money." Lola stacked three pies in front of her. "Enjoy! Or don't, I have your cash now anyway."
"What ever happened to Alexandra-?"
"She's college-ing, her and Caitlyn."
"Not helpful...?"
"Studying marketing. Statistics."
"Hm. Imagine understanding math."
"Real, you just gonna stand there? Just- hovering over the farmstand?"
"Should I be standing somewhere else?"
"Come on, walk with me. You good after everything?"
"I'm fine."
"Anybody can say that, can you look me in the eyes and tell me that you're all good?"
"I'm great."
"Mhm."
"I am!"
"I hope you're getting outside, kid."
"Of course. Fresh air is biologically nice."
Lola just gave her that look again.
"I *know* what you mean, yes. I'm getting outside, it's not all work."
"When's the last time you ate carbs?"
"Uhhh- maybe like, last weekend?"
"Good, good, Natalie ate shit every day."
