Guinevere had pulled her legs up onto the chair into a little ball, sniffling and crying as Lola just sat there.
But her legs tensed when a nurse emerged into the waiting room. Her eyes focused in on her short frame.
Lola noticed the twitching and went to put her hands on Guinevere's shoulders. "Guinevere-"
She outright spat her words at the nurse. "YOU COULD'VE TRIED HARDER!! YOU ASSHOLES SHE COULD'VE BEEN SAVED SHE COULD'VE BEEN SAVED."
"Miss, she didn't want treatment..."
"NATALIE NEVER WOULD'VE SAID YES TO CHEMO, EVERYONE ELSE WOULD HAVE!!"
"We have to comply with the patient's wishes... she was fully competent."
"FUCK YOU. MY SISTER IS DEAD BECAUSE OF YOU."
"That's enough, Guinevere."
"FUCK YOU."
"You're only making yourself hurt more by SCREAMING IN HER FACE. Calm down and just cry."
"I WOULDN'T BE SCREAMING IF THEY HADN'T KILLED MY FUCKING SISTER."
"STOP. Just stop, let's go."
"IT'S NOT YOUR FUCKING LOSS-"
"If we aren't going to work through this together, then I am leaving and going home. You cannot tell me what hurts me."
"FINE, LEAVE, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT."
Lola outright lifted Guinevere from the ground. "Get up or I drag you."
"Miss, may I sit there?"
Guinevere complied with the question, her brows tensing further as she shut her eyes.
And that's how she stayed for the entire car ride back home.
Lola's own eyes felt lax, everything just felt like it was sinking over her face. Her foot wanted to just slam on the gas and take all of her weight.
"Get out..." She pulled up in front of Guinevere's house.
"Mmph."
"GET OUT."
Guinevere just stood there in her front yard, silently digging her sneakers into the decaying grass, the sun burning into her skin. She would've preferred anything to the silence, not even a faint ringing in her ears.
She used the front door on the side of the house instead of their other door. But of course, that just had to be where her mother was.
"WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT??"
"I JUST FUCKING WALKED IN."
"STAY OUT OF MY WAY."
"GLADLY!"
"WHY ARE YOU STILL FUCKING THERE?"
"FUCK YOU."
Guinevere just hurried herself up the stairs, no slow, miserable trudging as she contemplated her life choices. She didn't even give Natalie's room a second glance, sitting herself on her floor in silence. No more tears, just grinding teeth with everything tensed.
...
"I'm sensing distress." Her mother noticed that Lola was more tense than usual. "Didn't go well, did it?"
Lola shook her head. She didn't break down, but red was blending into her eyes.
"Oh... oh dear God-"
Lola just went to sit down somewhere.
"I'm sorry, honey-"
"Fuck this."
"Oh no..."
Lola let out a deep sigh as she tried to lay herself back on the couch.
Her body just wouldn't ease up.
"I'm... I-" She didn't even know what to say to Lola.
"Stop... just stop..." Lola pulled her legs into her face. "Please..."
...
"PAY UP, BAJITA! AYYY-"
"7.2 MILLION??"
"7.2 million dollars, Caitlyn gets out again."
"You both are conspiring against me, I swear."
"Nahhh- you're just bad at moneying."
"I haven't taught you any financial skills, apparently."
"THIS GAME ISN'T REALISTIC IN THE SLIGHTEST, ERMMM-"
"Excuses, lies, get gud, noob."
"She's just kind of salty mhm mhm."
"Let me take this call, Alexandra."
"Okay, okay! Salty fucker :3"
Caitlyn stepped into the other room.
"Ello?"
She could only hear muffled noises from the other side.
"Lola? Lola, what's up?
"Natalie's dead."
"Excuse me...?"
"DID I FUCKING MUMBLE? NATALIE. IS. DEAD."
"How... no. What the fuck are you talking about..."
She heard the phone slam down as it hung up, left in her shallow breathing.
"Caitlyn? What happened- who was it, what's wrong?"
Caitlyn wrapped her short arms around Alexandra, trying to breathe more. It wasn't just the news getting to her, but the lack of information was making her panic.
"I don't know... I don't know..."
"Just breathe... who was it, and what did they say?"
"Lola said that Natalie was... Natalie-"
"Natalie... oh-"
Caitlyn just bashed her head against Alexandra's chest.
"Fuck cancer..."
"FUCK."
"Hey girls, what's good?"
"Now isn't the time..."
