Meredith's POV

"Why aren't you prepping for rounds and stealing all the good cases?" Cristina looks over at me as we sit in the gallery watching a surgery. We're the only ones in the viewing gallery but it's strange because normally other surgeons are here.

"Well why aren't you prepping for rounds and stealing all the good cases?" Cristina asks me.

"Cordelia had a nightmare about Matthew yesterday and couldn't get back to sleep." I tell Cristina, indicating to Cordelia who was sitting next to me.

"That sucks. I'm avoiding Burke." Cristina tells me.

"Why are you avoiding Burke? But I'm also waiting for Mabel because she's helping me get my mother into an Alzheimer's study."

"He thinks I moved in with him." Cristina tells me, causing me to raise an eyebrow at her.

"Burke thinks you moved in with him? What does that mean?"

"I lied to Burke and said I sold my apartment." Cristina explains when my phone beeps and I see that it's Mabel.

"I'll see you later." I tell Cristina before Cordelia and I both walk out of the gallery and headed to a patient's room. Mabel was already there waiting with two needles and several test tubes on a table. Sitting down on the table, I hand Mabel my arm and she begins to take my blood.

"Thank you for doing this. With needles and blood. They won't accept her without a full family history."

"I'm happy to get your mom into the clinical trial. My father has Alzheimer's and I understand the impact it can have on a family." Mabel tells me when she finishes taking my blood and hands me a bottle of Gatorade. Cordelia hands Mabel her arm and Mabel begins to draw blood from my daughter's arm.

"Can you test Cordelia's blood to see if she has the gene?"

"Of course I can. All done. How does that feel?" Mabel asks us once she finishes taking Cordelia's blood.

"Feels good."

Alex's POV

The double doors of the ambulance open up and paramedics start wheeling out a patient.

"Rick Friart, twenty-nine. Severed three fingers on his left hand. Controlled the bleeding in the field. Vitals stable. Gave him 5mg of morphine on the way in." Tony, the paramedic tells us while we wheeled Rick into the trauma room.

"The fingers?" Dr. Bailey asks when Mabel enters the room and stood back while Bailey asked the questions.

"Had some trouble retrieving them so we took off. Rich behind us found them. They're iced and ready to go. Ten minutes out." Tony explains to us before leaving.

"Continue with IV fluids and start a course of antibiotics." Mabel says before looking over at Cristina.

"Dr. Yang, wait outside for the fingers." Mabel says before Cristina heads back out.

"You can sew them back on right? 'Cause they sewed that guy's penis back on after his wife chopped it off, right?" Rick asks us.

"Penises and fingers. Like apples and oranges." Dr. Bailey says.

"How did it happen?" George asks him.

"I was loading my gear onto my truck for a gig and my hand got caught in the lift gate." Rick says, causing me to raise an eyebrow at him.

"You're a musician?"

"I play the friggin guitar. You can sew them back on right? It's not that big of a deal right? Oh dude I better not be out of the band." Rick says when Cristina enters the room with the severed fingers in a towel and Mabel begins to examine it.

"Well the cuts look clean. That's good. It certainly makes reattachment easier. I'm not going to lie to you, if the surgery is successful; we're looking at a long recovery. Lots of physical therapy. Do you smoke?" Mabel tells Rick, already knowing the answer.

"Why?" Rick asks her.

"Cigarette smoke constricts the blood vessels. I've seen really good grafts fail over a few cigarettes. That's why it's extremely important that you're honest with us." Mabel says before I leave the room and see Audrina standing at a nurses' station.

"Hey emerald." Audrina blushes at the nickname as I walk over to her and kissed her head.

"Hello pretty boy. Did you pass your boards?" Audrina asks me.

"Yeah I did. Thanks for all your help. I couldn't have done it without you."

"I'll always help you Alex because I love you and that's what you do for the people you love." Audrina tells me with a genuine smile and in that moment I could see myself spending the rest of my life with her.

"I love you too Audrina."
