The days after their heartfelt conversation remained filled with unspoken tension between Vivi and Sunoo. Despite the lingering thoughts about each other, they both chose to bury their feelings deep within, afraid to risk their precious friendship.
One afternoon, Mika joined Vivi in their favorite café on campus. They sat by the window, sipping on their drinks in comfortable silence for a while before Mika spoke up.
"You know, Vivi, I've realized something," Mika started, her gaze thoughtful.
Vivi looked up from her coffee, curious. "What is it?"
"I think I've been too pushy about you telling Sunoo how you feel," Mika admitted with a sigh. "I see now that it's something you need to figure out on your own time."
Vivi smiled gratefully, relieved by Mika's understanding. "Thanks, Mika. I appreciate that."
Mika nodded, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Just promise me you won't wait too long, okay? Life's too short to hold back."
"I promise," Vivi replied sincerely.
Meanwhile, across campus, Sunoo found himself hanging out with Niko and Riki in their usual spot near the university pond. They had a soccer ball with them, casually kicking it around as they lounged on the grass.
"So, Sunoo," Niko began casually, "how are things with you and Vivi?"
Sunoo shrugged, avoiding their curious gazes. "Fine. We're good."
Riki raised an eyebrow, unconvinced. "That's it? Just 'good'?"
Sunoo glanced at the pond, watching the ducks glide across the water. "Yeah, I mean... I don't know."
Niko sighed, leaning back on his elbows. "Dude, you're not fooling anyone. We can tell something's going on."
Sunoo chuckled softly. "Is it that obvious?"
Riki nodded. "Yeah, man. You're practically glowing every time you talk about her."
Sunoo rubbed the back of his neck, feeling a mix of embarrassment and gratitude for his friends' concern. "I just... I don't want to risk our friendship."
"And what if it's more than friendship?" Niko asked gently.
Sunoo looked at his friends, a conflicted expression on his face. "I don't know if I'm ready for that."
Niko and Riki exchanged a knowing glance, realizing that pushing Sunoo further wouldn't help. Instead, they decided to enjoy the afternoon together, focusing on their game and soaking in the warmth of the sun.
As the weeks passed, Vivi and Sunoo fell into a comfortable routine of studying together, hanging out with their friends, and navigating the challenges of university life. They continued to share inside jokes, support each other during stressful times, and enjoy each other's company without addressing the underlying tension between them.
One evening, all five of them—Vivi, Sunoo, Mika, Niko, and Riki—decided to have dinner together at a cozy restaurant near campus. The atmosphere was lively, filled with laughter and animated conversations as they enjoyed their meal.
"So, who's up for karaoke after this?" Riki suggested with a mischievous grin.
Niko chuckled. "You just want an excuse to show off your singing skills."
Riki shrugged, his grin widening. "Can you blame me?"
Vivi glanced at Sunoo, who was quietly listening to their banter with a fond smile on his face. She felt a pang of warmth in her chest, grateful for these moments with her friends.
After dinner, they made their way to the karaoke bar nearby, taking turns singing their favorite songs and cheering each other on. Vivi couldn't help but notice how Sunoo's eyes lit up every time she sang, a small smile playing on his lips as he watched her.
As the night wore on, Vivi found herself laughing and enjoying the moment, pushing aside the thoughts that had been lingering in the back of her mind. She was content with how things were, even if they were complicated.
Late that night, as they walked back to their dorms, Vivi found herself walking beside Sunoo. The air was cool, a gentle breeze rustling the leaves overhead.
"Tonight was fun," Vivi said softly, breaking the comfortable silence between them.
Sunoo nodded, his expression warm. "Yeah, it was. I'm glad we all went out together."
Vivi smiled, feeling a sense of peace settle over her. "Me too."
They walked in silence for a while longer, the quiet companionship between them soothing and familiar. Eventually, they reached the intersection where they had to part ways.
"Well, this is me," Vivi said, stopping at the crosswalk.
Sunoo nodded, his gaze lingering on her face. "I'll see you tomorrow?"
Vivi nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Definitely."
As Sunoo turned to walk away, Vivi couldn't help but feel a twinge of longing in her heart. She watched him disappear into the night, wondering if they would ever find the courage to confront the feelings that had been silently growing between them.
The next morning, Vivi woke up with a sense of clarity. She realized that while she cherished her friendship with Sunoo, she wasn't ready to risk losing him by confessing her feelings. For now, she would continue to enjoy their moments together and focus on being the best friend she could be.
Similarly, Sunoo woke up with a renewed determination to keep his feelings hidden. He knew that Vivi valued their friendship deeply, and he didn't want to jeopardize that with his own unresolved emotions.
