Sunoo's departure had left an undeniable void in Vivi's life. However, the constant exchange of messages, photos, and video calls kept them close despite the physical distance between Seoul and Italy.
One evening, as Vivi sat in her dorm room, her phone buzzed with a video call from Sunoo. She quickly answered, her face lighting up at the sight of his.
"Hey, Sunoo!" Vivi greeted, her voice bright with excitement.
"Hey, Vivi," Sunoo replied, his smile warm and genuine. "How's everything going?"
"Same old, same old," Vivi said with a sigh. "But tell me about Italy! How's it going over there?"
Sunoo leaned back, giving her a glimpse of the beautiful Italian architecture outside his window. "It's amazing. The classes are tough but fascinating, and the city... it's just so full of life and history. But I miss you guys a lot."
Vivi nodded, her expression softening. "We miss you too. It's not the same without you."
As the weeks turned into months, their regular calls became a cherished routine. They shared their daily lives, their struggles, and their triumphs, finding comfort in each other's presence even from miles away.
One afternoon, Vivi was sitting in the university library, her laptop open in front of her as she worked on an assignment. Her phone buzzed with a message from Sunoo.
Sunoo: Hey Vivi, got a break between classes. Want to chat for a bit?
Vivi smiled and quickly typed a reply.
Vivi: Sure! Give me a sec, I'll find a quiet spot.
She gathered her things and headed to a secluded corner of the library. Once settled, she video-called Sunoo, who answered almost immediately.
"Hey again," Vivi said, smiling at the sight of him.
"Hey," Sunoo replied, his eyes lighting up. "What are you working on?"
"Just a project for my marketing class," Vivi explained. "It's a bit of a headache, but I'll manage. How about you? How are your classes going?"
"They're intense, but I'm learning a lot," Sunoo said. "It's a challenge, but I'm really enjoying it."
Their conversations often delved into deeper topics, revealing their growing longing for each other. One evening, as they were chatting about their future plans, Sunoo's tone grew more serious.
"Vivi, I've been thinking a lot about what I want to do after this program," Sunoo admitted. "It's opened up so many possibilities, but... I can't help but think about how much I miss you and everyone back home."
Vivi's heart skipped a beat. "I miss you too, Sunoo. More than I can say. But I'm glad you're having this experience. It's important."
Sunoo nodded, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, it is. But sometimes, it feels like something's missing."
They sat in silence for a moment, the unspoken emotions hanging in the air between them. Finally, Vivi broke the silence.
"I know what you mean," she said softly. "I feel it too."
Their connection continued to deepen, each call and message strengthening the bond they shared. One day, as Vivi was walking through the campus gardens, her phone buzzed with another message from Sunoo.
Sunoo: Got a surprise for you! Check your email.
Curious, Vivi quickly opened her email and found a message from Sunoo with an attachment. She downloaded the file and gasped when she saw what it was—a beautifully edited video montage of their times together, set to their favorite song.
Tears welled up in Vivi's eyes as she watched the video, memories flooding back. Once it finished, she immediately called Sunoo.
"Sunoo, this is... it's amazing," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "Thank you so much."
Sunoo's face appeared on the screen, his eyes shining with happiness. "I'm glad you liked it. I just wanted to remind you that even though we're far apart, those memories and our connection are always with us."
Vivi nodded, wiping away a tear. "You always know how to make me smile, Sunoo."
