Mystic Falls, Virginia, 1 December 2010
"Winter in Mystic Falls is depressing," Anastasia complained, her feet resting on the table in front of her as she observed Klaus when he finished his painting for the Winter Wonderland-themed party that was being hosted later that day.
"You think everything in Mystic Falls is depressing," Klaus said without bothering to turn around, still completely focused on the canvas.
"True," Anastasia said, "but how can they have a Winter Wonderland party when it's nine degrees and sunny outside?" she pointed towards the window. "That's neither winter nor a wonderland."
"I can do a lot of things, Nastya, but changing the weather is not one of them," Klaus said as Vader came running into the parlor. He was growing more and more for each day and soon he'd probably take up the entire couch if he wanted to. For now he settled for placing his head in Anastasia's lap while Kol laid down on a pillow beside her.
"You could change our location," she muttered quietly under her breath, knowing fully that he could hear her. Klaus did, however, not get the opportunity to respond when a familiar face walked into the room.
Stefan Salvatore stopped a few metres away from the hybrid, his hands hidden in the front pockets of his jeans as he looked at the painting for a second before saying, "Looks like a giant snowflake."
"I prefer to think of it as an expression of postmodernism," Klaus said, looking proudly at his own work. "It's my donation to the Winter Wonderland charity event."
"I feel like they'd have appreciated your money," Anastasia told him, earning a glare from the hybrid. "But at least the painting shows real effort and care," she added just as Adrian, one of Klaus's hybrids, entered the room.
"You said it was urgent," Adrian said, looking at Klaus. Though his gaze lingered on Anastasia for a second too long according to the hybrid.
"Yes, take this to the Mystic Grill immediately," Klaus told him curtly.
"You want me to be a delivery guy?" Adrian asked disbelievingly.
Klaus's annoyance grew at his defiance and he took a step forward, closing the space between him and Adrian, "What I want is for you to do whatever I say. Without the attitude." It was becoming increasingly more clear that Tyler Lockwood was influencing the other hybrids. He'd somehow broken his sirebond and since then many of the other hybrids had started showing a lack of loyalty.
Adrian grimaced and walked over to the painting, trying to hide his irritation for being ordered around. He picked it up and started to leave the room when Klaus added, "And be careful with that. It's still wet."
"Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, you know," Stefan said snarkily.
"Doesn't mean contemporary slavery isn't a problem in the United States," Anastasia said, running a hand down Vader's back. "To this day various industries are known for taking advantage of forced migrant labour. Especially in the agriculture sector." When the two vampires looked at her strangely, Anastasia said, "I felt like I had been quiet for too long."
