Jeremy caught the stake and without a moment of hesitation he leaped forwards and stabbed Kol through the heart.

A few hours earlier...

"I may have an idea," Anastasia said, shifting nervously on her feet. She had a feeling Kol wouldn't like her idea — and even if he agreed she didn't know exactly how to execute her plan.

"Now I'm intrigued," Kol said, walking past her to sit down on her bed. "Please tell me."

"Well," Anastasia said, "there is only one weapon in the world that can kill an Original, right? The White Oak Stake?"

"Yes," Kol said slowly, since she was stating the obvious now. "I think we've covered that."

"And your mother used the power of the Gilbert ring to make it indestructible," Anastasia continued. "But all magic comes with loopholes. A weakness. Nothing is truly indestructible."

"You want to destroy it?" Kol concluded, sounding just as sceptical as she expected.

"Yes, I want to destroy it," Anastasia told him. "Because as long as that stake exists there will be death and suffering over it. Even if the stake isn't used to kill you or your siblings, you will rip each other apart in hope of being the one to possess it — because whoever has it also has leverage over everyone else."

Kol remained silent, considering her words. He did see her point. When their father possessed the White Oak Stake, it united them in a way; Mikael was the common enemy in a way. Kol knew that for as long as he had the weapon in his possession, Klaus would view him as a threat that needed to be put down.

"Remember all those years ago when Elijah and Finn burned down the White Oak?" Anastasia broke him out of his thoughts. "Back when your family was still somewhat united? You all agreed that the biggest threat to all of you needed to be destroyed."

"A lot has happened since then, darling," Kol reminded her. "Our family was never perfect — but now it is a downright tragedy."

"I understand that," Anastasia said. "And no matter how much I love Nik, I understand that his need to break the curse and create his hybrids is the cause of a lot of pain and problems for you, Elijah and Rebekah. But deep down — I don't think you would want to see him dead."

"I want him dead about three times a day," Kol rolled his eyes. "In fact, half of the time Nik opens his mouth, I imagine the best way to kill him."

"You are a vampire, so your feelings are enhanced," Anastasia reasoned. "It's a common thing to be annoyed by your older brother."

"Did you ever mentally plan on killing your siblings?" Kol asked her, raising an eyebrow while crossing his arms.

"Nothing that dramatic," Anastasia mimicked his actions, "but I did plan ways to make their lives just a little miserable — and sometimes I acted on those plans. That's just normal — and I might even say healthy — sibling behaviour."
