Gon and Leorio had finally arrived at the Hunter Association. Well, not quite. They actually had two days left before the association started, so they went to a hotel and had something to eat in the meantime. They chatted a lot during their meal. Later, they relaxed again in the hotel, but Leorio had to leave because he had an important appointment with Cheadle. Since Leorio was now one of the Twelve Zodiacs, he went to the Hunter Association. However, the Twelve Zodiacs weren't the ones giving the speech; other special people were.
Gon was bored to death in the hotel. He kept reaching for his phone and texting Killua. Well, he tried to, but there was no response. Gon's worries started to build up. He began to wonder if Killua was really not doing well or if he just didn't want to talk to Gon. Unfortunately, Gon didn't have Alluka's number, who would know how Killua was doing. Gon looked through his contacts and saw a familiar number. After thinking for a moment, he remembered that it was Gotoh's number. Gon recalled how they picked up Killua from that horror house and how they won that coin game against Gotoh. When they were about to leave because Killua was there, Gotoh not only showed Gon that the trick was rigged but also gave him his phone number in case something happened. (This scene wasn't in the anime; I made it up.)
Gon didn't want to call Gotoh now. He knew Killua didn't like calling people from his family or his butlers, so Gon decided to leave it alone.
Two hours had passed, and Gon simply couldn't hold back any longer. He called the number, hoping they might know how Killua was doing. When he called and waited, no one answered. Gon called a few more times until someone finally picked up.
Gon: "Hello?"
???: "Hello, who is this?"
Gon: "It's, um, Gon. Wait, is that you, Canary?"
Canary: "Yes, it's me."
Gon: "I thought this was Gotoh's number."
Canary: "It is, but Gotoh is... no longer with us."
Gon: "Where is he right now?"
Canary: "He's no longer alive..."
Gon: "...How did that happen?"
Canary: "We don't know either. Anyway, what did you want from him?"
Gon: "I wanted to ask how Killua is doing."
Canary: "Killua was away for a while. He's not here right now, but he will surely come back."
Gon: "So he's okay?"
Canary: "Yes, young master Killua is fine."
Gon: "Okay, then. Goodbye and my condolences for Gotoh."
Hangs up.
The call between Gon and Canary had finally ended. Gon was relieved that Killua was okay, but he also felt a bit sad that Gotoh had died. He noticed from Canary's voice that she sounded a bit quiet and nervous, which he found really strange. But what could he do? How did Gotoh die anyway? It certainly wasn't from old age; he didn't look that old. Maybe it was an accident? No, Canary would have known that. Oh, I don't know, Gon thought. He looked out the window sadly as it was raining. Gon felt lonely at that moment, but not for long, as suddenly there was a knock on the door and two people walked in whom Gon knew. It was Ging and Leorio.
Ging: "Yo, Gon, what's up?"
GON: "GING!!!" Gon shouted and jumped at him, hugging him tightly. He was so happy to see his father again.
Ging: "Wow, what's gotten into you?" Ging said, surprised by Gon's sudden hug.
"Sorry it took so long, kiddo. Some idiot had to get in my way when I had an important meeting with Cheadle," Leorio called out, glaring at Ging since it was him.
Gon looked at Leorio's hand and saw they had pizza.
"PIZZA!" Gon shouted excitedly, as he was really hungry again.
Leorio: "Yes, this is a—"
"Cheese pizza with a nice cheese crust, and even more cheese on top, with spinach," Ging said, cutting Leorio off.
Leorio: "Hey!! I wanted to say that. Besides, I was for a salami pizza, but the oh-so-great father who can't even take care of his son wanted spinach on it."
Leorio placed the pizza box on the table, and Gon looked at the pizza:

Gon: "That looks really delicious," Gon said, taking a piece. Ging and Leorio did the same, and together they ate the pizza.
"I'm so glad you guys are here," Gon said. Leorio began to smile and ruffled Gon's hair while Ging continued eating as if he hadn't heard anything.
