POV Gon

After Gon discovered that he could no longer use Nen, he stayed with his Aunt Mito and his grandmother, just like before. He had originally wanted to go on adventures with Ging, but since Gon couldn't use Nen and couldn't protect himself, it just wasn't possible. Ging wasn't keen on looking after Gon anyway, not that he ever did.

Gon was sitting at his desk doing his homework. He understood everything and managed well; Mito didn't even need to help him. Sometimes, on weekends, Leorio, Morel, and Knov would visit, and Gon was always thrilled when they came. However, Gon couldn't go on any more adventures, which was a real shame. A year had passed, and now he was 13 years old, doing what any kid his age would do: going to school, doing homework, walking in the woods, fishing, shopping, and helping with household chores.

At the moment, he was helping Mito with the laundry. He often found himself lost in thoughts about what it would be like to have more adventures, especially with Killua. He really missed Killua, and it was hard for him that they were now going separate ways. He still thought it was all his fault; if only they had fought Pitou together without Gon saying those hurtful words to Killua, maybe they would still be together.

"Aunt Mito, what would you think if I, well, took up my Hunter job again and went on an adventure trip for a while?" Gon asked her with a small hopeful smile.

"Absolutely not, Gon!" she exclaimed. Gon's hope was now shattered.

"I was really worried when you were away. I had to hear so much about you being in the hospital for a while. This whole Nen or whatever made things worse. We were really worried about you, Gon!" Mito said.

Gon just said "Sorry" and looked sadly at the ground while continuing to fold the laundry.

Mito said, "Gon, I just want you to be okay." She began to hug Gon and stroked his neck.

"It's okay, Aunt Mito, I understand," Gon said, pulling away from the hug. At that moment, Mito patted his head, and Gon quickly resumed folding the laundry.

At noon, when Gon finished folding the laundry, Kite came to visit. Mito and Gon welcomed him, even though he was now a girl. They all had lunch together, and then Gon and Kite went for a walk through the markets on Whale Island.

"So, how are you?" Kite asked him.

Gon replied, "I'm good. Living without Nen has drastically changed my life. I do the stuff that any normal 13-year-old does now."

"Okay, do you still have contact with Killua?" Kite asked. Gon couldn't find a good answer at first, but then he said, "Well, no. I tried to write to him, but he didn't respond. I think he's still busy with Alluka," Gon said, sounding a bit sad.

On the way, Gon explained exactly how they parted ways. Every time Gon talked about it, it hurt him more, and he realized even more that it was his fault. Gon also talked about how he felt during all of that and wondered how Killua must have felt at the time. Kite listened carefully. Time passed quickly, and it was evening when Kite received a call from the Hunter Association. The call lasted a while, and when he was done, Kite told Gon he had to leave. Gon accepted it, and Kite left. Gon went back home, to his room, and sat in front of his laptop.

He typed in hunterassociation.com and found a site about secret adventures. It seemed there were strange creatures found in many cities, and a meeting was to be held in a few days for all Hunters to gather and address the situation. Gon really wanted to go there; he was eager for it. Even though he wasn't supposed to, he felt he had to do this one thing.

Gon went into the kitchen where Aunt Mito was preparing dinner. "Aunt Mito, can I please, please go to the Hunter Association for a meeting?" he asked, but Mito interrupted him.

"Gon, I've already told you—" she began, but Gon quickly interjected.

"Wait, wait, wait! It's really important. There are lots of missions and dangerous creatures. I could help, and other Hunters will be there too, so I wouldn't be alone. It would be okay," Gon pleaded.

Mito looked annoyed and told Gon that he couldn't go because of what happened last time. She no longer trusted him.

"Please, Mito, please! I promise I'll be careful this time. Please!" Gon begged.

Mito responded, "Gon, no means no. I won't let you go off alone again only to hear about the terrible things that happened to you from your friends. I'm not letting that happen again. You stay here and focus on what's important in life. That's final," she said angrily.

Gon glared at her and stomped loudly up the stairs to his room. He lay on his bed, kicking and punching his pillow, and started screaming into it. "I JUST WANT TO HAVE ADVENTURES! I'M A HUNTER! WHY WON'T THEY LET ME DO WHAT I WANT?" he screamed, throwing the pillow against the wall with all his strength. He continued like this for several minutes until Mito called him for dinner.

Gon went downstairs and sat at the dinner table with a sad, angry face. Mito sat across from him, and his grandmother sat in the middle. They prayed and then started eating. Gon didn't look at Mito and ate his food angrily. Mito also didn't look at him or give him any attention.

Gon mumbled to himself while eating, saying things like, "I'm a Hunter. Why can't I go? I'm a damn Hunter. This is so unfair."

After they finished eating, Gon washed his dishes and then angrily went to bed, staring at the floor.
