Dearest Mother,
You will be relieved to hear that I am okay. I was shot down awhile back and the opportunity to write letters has been incredibly difficult. I hope you can forgive me for any anxiety I may have caused to our family as I suspect my trunk was shipped back to our home. I must ask, how is life in the States? I miss it deeply. How is Anne and her now husband, how exciting that must be! I am saddened that I could not make the ceremony as Anne's maid of honor, however, the war in Europe called.
Speaking of the war, we have heard very little while in this crowded camp. The American soldiers are nice here, you would be happy to know that they have manners and know how to treat a woman (seeing as I help them write to their wives and girlfriends). Very little happens around here but I mustn't go into too much detail. The officers treat us humanely enough as we have their downed airmen in our camps in England. Europe is not as beautiful as it is made out to seem, given the obvious. When the war is over I want to take the family to see what I saw.
