The day of the dreaded quiz finally came and there was a tense silence that fell upon the whole close. There wasn't as much of the usual banter between the students and you could feel the stress radiating. You could feel it, especially from a certain boy who's been studying all week for this quiz while his best friend was comforting him. As they took their seats, Soobin quickly wished him luck which even though it was a small gesture, it eased Kai a little bit.
Their professor walked in and the time finally came to take their quiz. He informed them that they would get their test score as soon as they finished as it was an online quiz. He gave the cue to start the quiz and the class fell into a long silence
Everyone finally finished and there was a mix of cheering and sobbing to be heard but there was only one person Soobin was curious about. He saw Kai stand up and grab his things, ready to leave, he quickly stood up and ran next to him.
"What did you get?"Kai looked up and him and a big smile formed on his face as he suddenly hugged him. Soobin started to feel butterflies form in his stomach but nevertheless, he hugged the younger back.
"I got a 87%! That's the highest score I ever got in this class!" Kai cheered. Soobin chuckled as he rubbed his back.
"All thanks to you, I don't know how I can ever repay you," The younger said, his voice coming out muffled since he buried his face in his shoulder. Soobin saw this as the perfect opportunity to ask out Kai, but unfortunately, he heard someone clear their throat behind him. He looked forward and saw it was Taehyun. They quickly broke the hug as he spoke up.
"You guys know I'm still here right?" Taehyun said, clearly done with them.
"Oh sorry Tae..." Kai drifted off. "I guess we should get going," He started to walk to Taehyun but Soobin didn't want to wait longer to ask out Huening, so he grabbed his wrist, making the younger surprised.
"Actually, can we talk for a sec?' Soobin asked softly. His tone made the younger's heart melt and he looked back to Taehyun.
"You can go ahead, I'll catch up," Taehyun raised an eyebrow but he nodded and walked away. Kai looked back to Soobin.
"What did you want to talk about?" Soobin looked down and started fiddling with his fingers. His stomach was full of butterflies and his head was racing with thoughts. Oh my god am I really about to ask him out...C'mon I got this...
He took a deep breath. "I was wondering if you..." He made eye contact with Kai which immediately made him wimp out from asking him. He nervously laughed as he continued
"Uh...wanted to hang out tomorrow...hehe..." Kai was slightly suspicious of Soobin's awkward demeanor but he decided to not question it.
"Sure! Had anywhere in mind?"
Soobin's mind was everywhere so he spouted the first thing that came to his mind. "Wanna go back to the MOA Cafe and try out the other drinks? We could even try the desserts if you want. Think of it as a celebration you passed," Soobin suggested, starting to calm down. Kai seemed very intrigued by the idea and nodded quickly.
"Sounds good, what time you wanna meet?" The older thought about it for a moment.
"How about 12? I'll meet you in front of your dorm." Kai nodded in agreement.
"I'll see you then," Kai smiled at him as we waved to go back to his dorm. Soobin waved back at the younger, but he sighed as he failed to ask him out. He didn't sulk about it for too long since he thought maybe he didn't want to rush things between them. He sighed again but this time in contentment as he also left to go back home.
Kai returns to his dorm and closes the dorm behind him, welcomed by his roommate but he looks at Kai suspiciously.
"I never knew you got close with Soobin..."
"Oh I've been wanting to tell you for a while but I never found a good time, I'm sorry for taking so long...," Kai trailed off feeling guilty. Taehyun sighs as he rubs the back of his neck.
"Don't be, I get it, I haven't been the most available recently either," He accepts as he takes a seat by the counter. Kai takes a seat next to him.
"Oh and if you don't mind me asking, why did you rush out of the library yesterday?" Kai asked, suddenly remembering his best friend's sudden disappearance yesterday. Taehyun looked down and took a deep breath.
"Well...my sister texted me, she told me that our mom was in the hospital because she fell down the stairs and I had to see her right away, but she's doing better now luckily," Taehyun said with a weak smile. Kai rubbed his arm reassuringly.
"I'm sure she'll be better in no time, really," Kai softly smiled. Taehyun appreciated the gesture and patted his hand.
"Thanks Kai, now tell me the details with Soobin, what did you guys talk about?" Taehyun quickly switched up. Kai sighed at his nosiness but he was glad he didn't stay sad.
"Well remember how you canceled last minute to the library?" Taehyun nodded.
"I ran into him and he actually helped me grasp the topic, he even helped me pass today! After he helped me we hung out for pretty much the rest of the day and he's actually a pretty cool guy," Kai explained, reminiscing of that day. On the other hand his best friend looked at him rather suspiciously.
"So you only see him as a cool guy...?" The younger paused and started to become slightly flustered as he remembered his conversation with Beomgyu.
"Um...I thought he was actually...kinda cute..." The last part came out very quietly but is was enough to send Taehyun in a full body shock.
He gasped loudly. "YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON HIM?????" Kai buried his face in his arms on the table and groaned.
"Just a small one ok??? And I only knew him for like a day so I'm not rushing to anything" The younger assured. Taehyun chuckled as he patted his back.
"Don't worry I was only teasing you, but I'm happy you're getting close with Soobin he's a nice guy," That made Kai's head shoot up as he realized something.
"Wait...you know Soobin???"
"Yes...???" Kai frowned.
"How did everyone know him but me?? Even Gyu knew him" he explained.
"Yeah I'm kinda surprised it took you this long to get to know him, we've been friends with him for a while now" Kai scoffed.
"Oh yeah before I forget, I'm gonna meet with Soobin tomorrow,"
"WHAT"
Soobin arrived home and he felt a buzz in his pocket. He opened his phone and saw a message from Beomgyu

I didn't wanna rush things anyways<

He chuckled as he put his phone back into his pocket and set his stuff down on a nearby table. He looks out the window as he sighs seeing the sun set, reminding him of the business he'll have to take care of that night.
"Everything will be fine...right?..."
