-"Mr. Black, nothing goes on behind your eyes do they." Professor Riddle spoke as he towered over his desk--dangerously close to my wife.
"You wouldn't like what went on behind my eyes, professor." Sirius attempted to jab back.
"Now of that we can agree, Mr. Black." Riddle said as turned to clear his chalk board, a very clear sign he was about to dismiss class. "If there are no more questions--specifically of the daft kind--that will be all. Class dismissed." Thank Merlin.
I quickly gathered my things and stood up. I kept a tight grip on Remus as we walked outside the classroom. Diana had been slowly putting her things away in her bag. She wasn't being aggressively slow like she wanted to dottle and be in that room. It was closer to her being in her own world. Like the thoughts swirling around in her head demanded she conserved all her energy to think.
Riddle is actually on one.
I thought he liked Vincent first and foremost. I've seen him with the Montague's at nearly every ball or posh dinner I've had to go with my family but I guess I was wrong.
I take it back.
It's not that he doesn't like Vincent, its me. It's fucking me. I had to leave it to Sirius to give him an awful lecture because I was busy ensuring Remus didn't go to Azkaban.
If looks could kill, Vincent Dominic Montague would six feet underground and Remus John Lupin would be throwing dirt at the wet top soil. That was one gift that Mooney and Ranger had that I wished to never be on the receiving end of.
"...Dirty Motherfucking, cock-sucking, worthless arse..."
Remus' oh-so incandescent mumbling brought a smile to my face as we waited by the door. Surely Sirius and Diana would walk out soon and he would calm down slightly.
"...Bumbling, perverted, perfumed in shit, cousin-fucking sot..."
Any minute now.
Lily then came walking out with Peter close behind.
"Bitch"
"Bitch"
Peter shot Remus and I a look that could have curdled milk, "Merlin, I thought we were mates. Fuck you too." Remus sighed, this having broken the glossed over cursing rage that being in Riddle's class put him in.
"Sorry, Wormtail." Remus said as Pete walked away. I'm not sorry, he hit on my wife.
Sirius walked out of the classroom holding Diana's arm in his arm, a smile covering his entire face. He was more talking at Diana than having a conversation as she looked sullen.
Something happened and someone is going to fucking pay.
"Prongs I think that was some of my best material I mean I really think we witnessed his vein bludge out of his forehead." Sirius said and continued walking. The four of us now walking in rhythm away from the class.
Remus now appeared much more at ease and my hand slipped away from his bicep. He may have only been an inch taller than me but good godric did that inch feel like a mile when he got into his near-silent rage.
"I liked the bit when Prongs got called out for being a menace." Diana said finally breaking her silence. Remus' mouth curled into a smirk, "I'd have to agree." He added on. "Wow guys, really feeding my ego there." Sirius said and dramatically ripped his arm from Diana's.
This however had the exact effect she wanted.
"I'm gonna head back to my dorm because I have pitch reserved. I'll see you guys later." She said and then headed to our room. Although she tried to seem enthusiastic, it most definitely did not translate as such.
"Strange."
Sirius commented loudly after she split from us. "I would feel as such if I was that close to Riddle and his coffee breath for as long as we were." Remus added on. "James go check on her." Sirius instructed me.
"Go. Shoo." Remus ordered me and waved his hands in a flapping motion. "Oi why me?" I crossed my arms watching them, as much as I did want to go to check on her, I didn't want it to be suspicious. Remus looked at Sirius and Sirius spoke.
"Well"
"Do go on Padfoot."
"You live with her." Sirius said and raised an eyebrow at me. "I do." I replied, "Very well then, goodbye." Sirius' walk away from me seemed to converge into a dead sprint Remus shortly following after.
When I opened the door to our dorm I found my wife sitting on couch with her hands folded neatly. "Can you close the door, James?" She said looking up at me, her eyes glossed over. I didn't even speak, all I did was shut the door closed and walked to her.
"I um." She started to smooth the wrinkles out of her skirt as she spoke, her eyes avoiding me. I knelt down, my knees hitting the ground just before her feet. "What is it, love?" I spoke softly as I took my bag off my shoulder, my hands finding their way to her hips. "I-" she looked up to the ceiling with her head tilting back.
I knew my wife.
This was my wife trying not to cry and failing miserably.
"It's alright, love." I said rubbing patterns onto her hips with my thumbs. "It's not though." Her voice broke and she closed her eyes. Tears cascading down her cheeks. "Well then whatever it is I am here." I leaned closer to her face as I talked.
She sniffled slightly as her brown eyes finally reached mine. Her teeth released her lip from their grasped. "I know who was you at the Halloween party." It was a squeaky rasp that spoke, not her voice. "I think I know too love." Her eyes darted between my mouth and eyes. "What?" She asked.
"Regulus and I talked about it. Riddle-He's the only one that it could be and not to mention that he's got motive." I spoke looking to the side of the room where her bedroom door lied. "He's playing with me." She whimpered out. "It's driving me mad, James." Diana's word made my chest burn.
I looked back at her and put my hand on her cheek, "We're going to figure this out. He's not going to win or get away with this." I nodded as I spoke and Diana nodded with me. "I'm so sorry." Diana exasperated, finally barreling her head down and crying.
"I'm so fucking sorry, Jamesy." Her head hit my shoulder and all I could do was hold her as she sobbed. She just kept repeating herself.
I ran my hands up and down her spine. "Shhh." I tried to soothe her but it didn't work so I just let her continue. When she finally stopped I held her tighter.
"There was no way you could've known. Because that son of bitch accounted for the fact you'd let me touch you like that. His plan only worked because I'm just that attractive." Diana laughed against me, she sniffled. "Maybe we need to stop being so affectionate to let your ego calm down, hmm?"
"Now there's the woman I love. My wife always has the most sarcastic thing to say." I smiled and looked down at her. She had a faint smirk on her lips. I pulled her head up with my hand and kissed her forehead.
"I love you, Ranger."
"I love you too Prongs."
"Always?"
"Well until the abs go away."
"Oi!"
