Kiss Me

"Pick some clothes and just come out of the room already!" Matt yelled as he waited with the others on the couch of Alex's home. He was starting to get annoyed with him rushing out of his room with a new shirt or pants on, just to hear the boy's opinion and then rush back to his room when he got the judgement. "It's just her birthday! Not to mention, you guys aren't even dating yet..."
"I heard that, you sod!" Alex opened the door and poked his head out, giving a glare to Matt and once again slamming the door.
"Alex, don't slam the door and watch your mouth!" His mom called from the kitchen.
"Sorry!"
The three boys slumped on the couch, waiting impatiently and listening to the sounds of hangers hitting the floor and drawers being opened and shut. They found his behavior starting to get annoying. Sure, he wanted to look good for his crush and possibly soon to be girlfriend, but the constant switches in clothes were starting to get dull. Besides, they all had to pick up the cake at the bakery, and they could only hold the cakes for so long.
"Alex!" Matt tried once more to get him to hurry up, "We still need to pick up her cake!'
The boys could hear a muffled curse and a thud. They gave each other quizzical looks, unsure if Alex was okay. His door opened with a loud noise, the door knob hitting the wall, earning another scold from his mother. Alex stumbled to the couches, struggling to put on one of his shoes as he hopped around on one foot. His hair was messy as expected, and his shirt was wrinkly. What really made everyone speechless was the fact that it was the very first outfit he had tried on. He went through possibly more than fifteen outfits, just to pick the one he started with.
"Alex," His mother came up to him and stood him straight, fixing his hair and also giving him a small pinch, "You know better than to waste your friend's time."
"Sorry... again," He formed his lips into a thin line and waited till his mom was done. He was a little bit embarrassed, allowing his mother to fix his appearance in front of his childhood friends while they all grinned at him and teased him behind his mother's back.
"There we go," She smiled and held his face in her hands, "My boy is all grown up! Now, listen. Don't make that girl uncomfortable, okay? Respect her and her bounda-"
"I got it!" He whispered to her. He knew what she was saying. "I promise not to do anything she doesn't like. It'll be an easy day. We are just going to get her a cake, walk around the city and... and..."
"Confess his feelings!" Matt shouted from the couch.
At this, his mother gave Alex a firm look, "I mean every word. She is a good girl, and if I hear from anyone you were being disrespectful, I'll let your father handle this."
Alex shook his head frantically, already wanting to leave the house and get the cake. Once his mother saw he understood, she gave one last smile and left a kiss on his forehead and let go of him with a small push to the door, "Bye now! Tell her I said happy birthday!"
Alex nodded, taking his jacket from the chair and opening the front door for his friends. "Will do. Bye mum," he and his friends waved to the lovely woman and soon closed the front door gently.
"More than half an hour changing your silly clothes just to leave with the one you started," Matt shook his head and was the first one to descend the small set of stairs.
"On the bright side," Jamie followed Matt and wrapped an arm around his shoulder as an act of comfort. "We can go get that cake."
The group of four steadily walked on the poor pavement, breathing out the warm air in their lungs to see those puffs of condensation leave their mouths. It was fairly early, too, nearly eight in the morning. Matt just made a big deal of time because he could. It was a good day. The sun was peeping through the houses, lighting up the faces of the people walking around in the city. No doubt you were still asleep, oblivious to the surprise delivery the boys were planning for you. The four boys each got you a small gift; sour candy, a small sketchbook, a lipgloss which you loved, and a cute cow plushie that had a squeaky toy inside. They were going to combine the gifts into one bag just for times' sake.
