"And... there!"

"Do I look pretty now?" A sad tone was apparent in your voice. You watched as your friend's hand left your hair, gently leaving a scent of coconut oil in your hair.

"You've always been pretty," one of them responded. "Alex is stupid for not seeing that. But hey, you know what that means, right?"

Your mouth formed a line. It had been a couple of months since he decided to part from you. Obviously, you were going to keep things mutual, seeing as there would be no reason to fight for a love that was falling apart. "No," you shook your head. "I don't know what it means."

"It means you can show off extra now that he's not here or in your life! Duh!"

That statement alone didn't fuel your ego; in fact, it might have dropped it. You looked down at your lap, avoiding their eyes as you did your best not to cry. It's been a couple of months since the breakup, and you are just now having a discussion with your friends at a sleepover.  Now, recently, you received a big text from him. You didn't tell your friends. The main reason is that they would call it bullshit.

"Look," the one with the coconut-scented hands gently pushed hair out of your face, "You shouldn't dwell on a boy who did nothing for your relationship. You deserved a lot more than he had to offer. You shouldn't be stuck in the past."

"I know..." you responded, nodding. They were right. You were putting most of the effort into the relationship. They were also right about your relationship being in the past. It was a little hard to accept. For what the relationship was, it's pretty hard to forget. The good moments you had, the kisses, the "I love yous"—it was all just... poof. Gone.

A moment of silence consumed your friends as you sat on the floor, still staring at your lap. No one wanted to bring up the topic of the breakup since they knew how it affected you. It was always a sensitive topic when brought up. You could tell they were trying to keep things cool, but the atmosphere felt too damn heavy.

"How mad would you guys be if I did something stupid?" You asked after a moment.

"Depends on what you're going to do," the friend on the bed responded. She was propped up, her arms supporting her torso. Her eyes were glued on you with curiousness.

"Well," you started, "I got a text from my uh-" You stopped for a quick second, figuring out what to label your ex as. "Alex."

"What did he want?" The friend with the coconut-scented hands looked at you with curious eyes. "And why are you just telling us now? When did you get it?"

"I got it tonight after everyone got here," you lied. "I was just too scared to open it. Because let's be real, when has his texts been a positive thing since the breakup?"

"What did the text say?" The other friend sat straight up, now interested in what was going on. The other friend in the room was looking up from her phone, also interested in the conversation.

You grabbed your phone from the side, pulling up the text as your friends crowded around you. Everyone was looking over your phone as you hovered it over your lap.

"Read it out loud. I wanna hear what that ass hat has to say," the friend in bed bluntly said. You couldn't help but chuckle at her comment.

"He said... 'Hey, I don't know what you are doing, but I hope you are doing okay. I just wanted to say that I miss you. I miss a lot of the things between us and I want to fix what happened between us. You are the only one who understands how I feel and what I've been going through the past couple of months. After we broke up, I felt like a dick head leaving you like that. I know I probably sound desperate but I just want you to know how I feel, and I want to keep that promise about being by your side. I just want to fix the relationship we had. I'm still here for you too, and if anything I'm willing to wait, but again I'll respect any decision you make and I will always be there if you need anything.'... yeah." You finished and put your phone on your lap.
