"Most of these creatures that've shown up have been from the past." Beatrice pointed out, rising in her seat as he slipped on his suit jacket. It was a dark emerald green to match his pants. "Is there a possibility of a time traveler in your midst?"
"It's possible. I don't think they've explored that option yet." Ominis' eyebrows furrowed, "But that would become the Ministry's highest priority if there was an illegal time traveler involved. There hasn't been any Time Turners reported missing by the Unspeakables, so I find that unlikely."
Beatrice shrugged her shoulders lightly, "Whatever the case, my focus is on the magical creature. It's not fair to the beast to kill it simply for existing. They think the Sabertooth is the monster, but Wizardkind is also full of monster."
Ominis pressed his lips together in a firm line. "I don't disagree with you," His voice softened slightly, "But I wish I'd been there to protect you like you want to protect that creature."
"I can protect myself." I just can't protect my own research, Beatrice thought sardonically. The faint ache to her side also vehemently disagreed with her statement. Still, Ominis thought the best of her.
"I know." He held out his hand to her, mentioning something about Apparating to his flat, "But there's nothing wrong with being protected either." Ominis' hand wrapped around hers, "Let me protect you if the time comes."
Beatrice smiled shyly, but her tone was playful. "Even if I'm being swarmed by bees?"
He paled. "There's always exceptions."
She smiled brightly at his mock horror expression. For the first time in a long time, she did feel safe. If she was being honest with herself, she'd missed him a lot. Maybe even more than she was willing to admit to herself as his touch warmed her chest.

Beatrice sat close to the window next to Ominis and across from Sebastian who was reading the Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde. He was deftly ignoring Ominis who was likewise ignoring him and she had the inkling that she was stuck in the middle.
"Is that one good?" Her voice beckoning both of their attention.
Sebastian lifted his gaze from the book, "It's a satire comedy with most of the insults aimed at high society. You can borrow it, if you'd like. I've already read it twice."
Her smile was small, "Thanks. Do you have a favorite author?"
Ominis snorted inwardly, leaning back against the seat. "That's like asking a botanist what their favorite plant is."
Sebastian cocked an eyebrow, gazing at Ominis for a moment with an unreadable expression before it shifted to apathy. "Favorite author is Dickens. There's the most variety with him. A book for every mood."
"But your favorite book is Paradise Lost?"
"Yes..." Another quiet, disgruntled noise from Ominis which made them both look at him with curiosity. Well, Beatrice was curious. Sebastian was glaring at him, "Something to add, old friend?"
