"I'm sorry about your parents." She murmured, at least recognizing that there was some sort of tension between Sebastian and the relationship he had with his Uncle, "When did you meet Ominis? First year of school?"
"Yes, we were all sorted into Slytherin. Everyone was afraid of him. Even all the way up to Fifth year, they thought that he was a Dark wizard." Scorn bled into his tone, "It was annoying when I was the one who tended to dabble in the Dark Arts and Ominis was the one trying to keep me away from it. He didn't even like speaking Parseltongue. The meanest thing about him is telling First Years there's mermaids in the Black Lake."
She was silent for a moment as they walked, "You sound... Almost defensive. Did you have to defend him a lot?"
"Yes, unbeknownst to him." He added the latter with a pointed look at her to keep her mouth shut about what he was going to say, "You know his family better than I, but Hogwarts was his escape. I wanted the school to be a place where he could breathe easily and be happy. I ended up in detention a lot, challenging other wizards to duels if they had something negative to say about him. I almost got my wand taken away for a hexing a witch into a worm when she called him an ugly, blind bastard."
Her lips curled up, teasing. "Because she said he's a bastard, blind or because she said he was ugly?"
Sebastian didn't answer her, but he did turn his head away under the guise of looking for fish. The light ambience might have been warm with the approaching sunset, but Sebastian's flush against his cheeks was even warmer. Beatrice hid her smile at the sight.
There was more to the story and she was determined to find out.
Magizoology Tip #14
When something big and scary is lurking nearby, be as silent as a jobberknoll. Unless it's about to kill you, then scream like Jobberknoll would.
"Ugh." Beatrice scowled, tugging at her sleeves with a sour expression.
Sebastian turned around to look back at her. He had discarded his footwear and rolled up his trousers to stand in the shallow water. Despite the fact that it was getting close to sunset and they should really be making their way back soon; it was hot and stuffy out.
"Why don't you transfigure your clothes into trousers?" He turned back to the large body of water they'd found that appeared to be a large lake full of clear water, "I don't understand why it's still so bloody hot. The sun's almost at the horizon."
Beatrice considered his words before agreeing in her head that it was the best course of action. Her pastel dress transfigured itself onto her body as white trousers and a pastel short sleeve. She didn't have the energy to change the colors, but the material was lighter this way, and it was hot out.
"The world was one continent back in the day, right? Pangea? There were no glacial caps. It's likely that the world was more tropical back in the day." Beatrice explained, pointing her wand to the vines she'd gathered, and used magic to form a vine bag for carrying.
Sebastian had caught a few fish now and she hoped they tasted alright. The pair was still out because he was convinced he could find a bigger one and she still needed to create something suitable to carry water in.
